Kresselack Posted September 16, 2008 Share Posted September 16, 2008 I see a lot of pictures and mods get instant high ratings, just because it is sexual oriented. I dont think that is fair. "I rated this a 10 because it is sexy" Just the other day I saw a picture not relevant to Oblivion at all, yet it recieved so many high ratings, just because it was softcore porn. But what is the best and sincere reason why that certain upload gets a superb rating? Is the lighting good? Is there effort? Does this mod look creative or unique? Yes, I understand there are horny teenagers, but why did you honestly give a ten? Now lets compare porn to a good mod or picture. I could make a half-assed mod that involves a naked elf. Compare that picture with an elaborate mod or picture. For some odd reason many people would rather oogle at the elf than view a work of art. For example: There is an art contest and the first place winner is between two contestants. One artist painted a beautiful scenery with intricate details and colour. The other artist simply sketched a sloppy scene of a door. It supposidly showed meaning, emotion, and a story. Oddly enough he won because his art showed emotion. But it was efforless. He won becuase it was covered up by a story, just like high rating mods are covered up with sex and nudity, and the ability to give someone an erection! Some might say that ratings are pointless. Personally, it feels good to get a kudos. It is natural for others to want appreciation. But is it fair that someone else gets more appreciation or recognition for porn? You might as well resign yourself to the fact that this is how it is, and have fun for yourself if you want to post. Really you might as well stop right there and ignore the ratings. It is obvious that nudity is the ultimate draw, whether it's the image section, or the mods. What I mean is this, when I spend alot of time trying to bring something new to the game, such as the piano, scales, etc.. and they are very in depth, and take quite awhile to make. Then, when I release them, I'm looking foward to possibly very high interest... The reality that I see though, is that if I spent very little time making a bandaid covering over a nude female form, and calling it armor... my downloads would skyrocket. The ratings you're complaining about are justified according to the tastes of the users that post those ratings. The complaint you have is a very personal, ethics-driven one. From 1977 - 1984 there was a particularly stupid sitcom on American television titled Three's Company... from 1977 until 1983 it consistently rated in the Top 10 shows, despite its reliance on pratfalls, lame double-entendre, and Suzanne Somers for cheezecake factor as a stereotypic 'ditzy blonde'. It proved that there's no accounting for taste.If it helps, you can rest easily knowing that I don't rate screenshots, only mods, and I don't give kudos for screenshots. In fact, it's what got me started on doing humourous screenies, hopefully in effort to get others to do something besides porn and soft core. I always enjoy thumbing through your screenies. I agree completely with you, Kresselack, but unfortunately the state of our society is driven by image and sexuality. Everyone uses sex to sell anything, and I believe it sets the tone of the general mentality. It's becoming less and less taboo to talk about, portray and participate in sex. After the subject has been repressed for so many years, it's finally ok to talk about according to societies standards. And it's not a bad thing, but there is a time and place for everything (another topic for another time though). It'd be like the US government going on CNN and saying that all drugs are now legal to use, distribute and purchase in the United States. There would be a kind of feeding frenzy to get any and everything one could get their hands on. It is the most basic principle of life, sex sells and it sells good, you can not only blame the horny teens for it :D Take a look at all the magazine covers, even a tech magazine has a female model who wears the tightest bikini and holds an iphone... So what is technologic about this magazine, the gals legs or something? The thing is men are easilly get attracted (or distracted by) to female figure... It is not something about being fair or something, just your hormones, your genes react to the view... I mean take a good look at every music video nowadays, each and every one of it contains some erotic scenes at some point, think of pussycat dolls (Dreadful band BTW :D hardly call a band) or some other stupid girl band or some stupid boy band or some hip hop rap music video... You can rant about it, hate it, find it disgusting since I find music to be promoted by nudity disgusting, but you cant do anything about it... you just have to turn a blind eye or wage a one man war to it :D but you wouldnt get much in the end... Looking through my files the other day, its truth is only further proven. The mods that centre around sex have way more downloads than any of my others. Thousands of downloads of my boners and sexy anims (both mods I made for the fun of it), less then a thousand (or even a hundred) on any of my others. Then there is the demographic of the majority of gamers being young males. My friend Kikai noticed this: mods of female stuff get many, many more downloads than the same outfit made for male. The Hentai outfit compilation she put together gor more downloads in the first few days than all of her male mods put together, simply because it was a lot of female outfits.
