turinturumbar1469
TLDR: Is there a way to revert changes made by Vortex when it recognizes that files have been modified outside of Vortex? Full:I've encountered a strange issue with Fallout 4, the UWPU mod (ultra widescreen mod/fix). Since the last time I played Fallout 4 and used Vortex, I moved my Steam install to a different drive (was running out of room and got a new drive). While fiddling with mods and installing UWPU I received a notice/error/warning that some files had been modified outside of Vortex. The first time I received this message, I clicked "Cancel" (or Ignore, don't recall the label on the button to do nothing). After ignoring the message and not telling Vortex to fix anything, I was able to load Fallout 4 with proper ultra widescreen support. After closing out Fallout and then re-opening Vortex to continue fiddling with mods, I received the error again. This time, I accidentally clicked the button for Vortex to fix the issue. Now, whenever I attempt to load the game with UWPU mod enabled, the game crashes to desktop as soon as the FO loading icon renders in the bottom-right corner. I tried disabling all mods except UWPU but that didn't work. Once I disabled UWPU, the game loaded just fine. So I tried uninstalling all mods and then re-installing them. That didn't work. I tried uninstalling all mods and then re-installed only UWPU, but the game still crashes to desktop before it can actually start loading the game. I tried uninstalling and re-installing FO and then re-installed only UWPU. That didn't work. I tried uninstalling and then purging and then reinstalling, and the game still crashes. The only mod that is problematic is UWPU, but that wasn't until Vortex screwed with the files, even though everything was fine. I'm baffled that a clean install of FO and the mod isn't working. I've looked through the posts on the mod's page, but haven't found anything useful. The reason I'm coming here is because the mod worked when I followed the authors instructions, but it broke after Vortex did its thing. I figure there must be some sort of simple solution to get the game to work with a mod it already worked with before Vortex screwed with the files, but I'm just not sure how to revert Vortex's changes. Vortex didn't break it, Vortex only did what you told it to do. You should always pick SAVE when it asks you about files being changed outside of Vortex. Does the Wide Screen fix alter any files such as the Fallout 4.exe?
turinturumbar1469
Vortex didn't break it, Vortex only did what you told it to do.You should always pick SAVE when it asks you about files being changed outside of Vortex. Does the Wide Screen fix alter any files such as the Fallout 4.exe? Well, clearly. I clicked the wrong button and didn't want Vortex to modify anything and I don't recall there being an option to "Save" - must have overlooked it. I don't believe it does -- my limited understanding of it is that it modifies the interface files to properly support 21:9 aspect ratio. Without it, the menu backgrounds are offset and not aligned with the associated menu/item. I would have thought that if it did modify the executable then the clean install would have allowed me to get the mod working again. Then again, I thought that a clean install would wipe any changes Vortex may have made to any of the files associated with the game and I also thought deleting, purging, and then re-installing the mod would help -- didn't work on old install or clean install. Sounds like the short answer is that if I didn't back up the mod/game assets before Vortex "fixed" the mod files, I'm SOL. Really wish Bethesda would provide native support for ultrawide... SMH. Thanks for your time anyway. EDIT: painful lesson learned.
HadToRegister
So what mod was it exactly?
Rattledagger
Just to be sure, did you manually delete the game directory before re-install?
