why are mods for morrowind called mods, but everything for skyrim is under plug ins?

i keep being told the fookin' "plugins" can't be sorted because of rule conflicts and i have to make a new rule. i make a new rule and nothing changes. and there's no option to delete the fookin' offending plugins. or any plugins. which are nothing but mods but aren't listed as mods

W!T!F!

Stop trying to sort your PLUGINS manually.

You need to drop the bad habit of sorting Plugins, as taught to you by NMM, and let Vortex swort them.

You're fighting AGAINST Vortex by trying to force your idea of the perfect load order on Vortex.

Read the section in the knowledge base about LOAD ORDER and watch some of the built in tutorials

BTW, Skyrim has MODS too.

Plugins are ESM, ESP, ESL

MODS are Textures, Meshes, BSA, BA2 etc.

It's more important to get your MODS sorted correctly, that's why you need to let Vortex sort your PLUGINS on its own.

You need to read the knowledge base articles built into Vortex.

Minor point. A mod is anything packaged in an archive and can be managed by Vortex (or NMM or MO).

That includes everything listed above under Plugins as well as everything listed above under Mods.

Some mods are just textures, some mods are just an esp, and some are all the above.

Point of confusion: a texture mod has no plugin associated with it, so users ask Why isn't it listed under Plugins? Answer: because it has no plugin.

Yes, but when Vortex talks about MODS vs PLUGINS, it means,

MODS = the BSA, BA2, Textures, and Meshes, and that's why it's more important to sort the Texture, Meshes folders, and the BA2, and BSA because that determines which Textures and Meshes, and Scripts etc take precedence over other "mods"

Vortex refers to everything else AKA, ESPs, ESMs, ESLs, as PLUGINS.

I'm trying to eliminate the confusion this guy has about how Vortex considers MODS vs PLUGINS, not add to it by giving the 'dictionary terms' for "mods"

OK but:

Items listed on the Vortex Mods page are both.

I KNOW THAT, you know that, pretty much everybody knows that.

This guy is just starting out, so I'm trying to separate them into MODS and PLUGINS, like Vortex does, without adding yet the problem of MODS also being MODS.

I am trying to keep it simple do the OP can understand the difference with HOW VORTEX TREATS the MODS TAB, vs the PLUGINS TAB.

Some people have a problem with getting that small piece of the learning curve, so it doesn't help to add the full definition of what a Mod is right now.

Let's get him through the concept of what Vortex does with MODS, and what it does with PLUGINS before adding the pedantic and technical definition of what Mods are, that can come later when the OP 'gets' the TWO concept before adding a third.
