Wanted! People with a little mod experience for my city mod.

Hello there!

I'm in progress of making a city mod and looking for some people that want to put their mark on it.

The city will resemble Laputa, (from the anime) a giant flying city in the middle of skyrim.

The flying parts is already done but the city needs a bit more life so I come here to hunt for some people eager to cooperate with me on this.

Depending on how nice people I get with me and how good you are at modding you might get more stuff too do.

Right now I need 12 interiors/exterior for my low class city square.

All the houses is going to be part of the main cell so you can go in and out of them without loading. (anyone know of why this could be a negative thing)

The houses/exterior can take up maximum of 3x3 of 0005B096 (its a floor tile) or minium of 3x2. So you can have 3x2 but with 1-3 extra tiles if you need it)

The "house" should be DweFarm01 (its two parts with Int and Ext) or DweFarm02 (its two parts with Int and Ext).

You can edit whatever part of the house as longs it fits Dwemer architecture and as long as it fits the space.

The house should have working sound and lightning.

The whole house should be in a own empty cell and it should work to copy in to my main city cell.

You can have a npc that lives in the house and walk around the yard.

The house can be a shop.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is my first real big mod and I'm a total noob with ck and the whole scripting part. But I have plenty of free time and I want to learn to be better at ck.

Anyone interested in this project can join in and if you want to contact me personal, my mail is forum name but with @hotmail at the end.

If you want to talk even more feel free to add me on steam with same email.

I'm still going to try do this alone if no one is interested but it will take a lot more time.

Have any more questions just post them here in this thread and lets have fun with modding.

having all the interiors in the same cell as the exterior is probably going to cause most peoples games to crash to desktop, its just too much going on, also when it rains it would rain inside peoples houses through the roof, sorry i dont really have time to work on this with you but i wish you best of luck

Also, by putting them all in the same cell you will severely limit your ability to use lighting (the number of lights is limited per cell).

I also don't have time sorry, just starting work on an even bigger project of my own. Just wanted to warn you that making them all part of teh same cell is a really, really bad idea if you want them to look good and/or contain more than a few objects without crashing the game.

The houses is kind of small its it will only be 12 of them in the cell that have exteriors. And with them being so small it should only take max 2 hours to sett one of them up. You should open CK and have a look at the interior of the house before you make up your mind.

And I think the lightning wont be a problem because 1 house should only use max 3 lights. And so far I should have a lot less objects then lets say blackreach.

Trust me, I'm very well aware of the pieces you are talking about.

Just trying to give you a friendly warning of the possible problems you may face by doing it the way you described. I was under the impression from the thread title that you were seeking help and/or advice from people with a little experience, and you specifically asked if anyone thought your approach may be a problem.

(I am working partly on assumptions about your mod here, obviously)

Blackreach is a large worldspace and not all of it as actually loaded at any one time. If you are talking about a "city square" then I imagine you will be using a significantly smaller space, most of it WILL be loaded at any time, so the comparison is more, will you have more or less objects than the small section of Blackreach that is about the same size as your city square? If it contains 12 dwefarm interiors complete with clutter (and NPCs) my guess is: yes you will.

Blackreach also loads separately from the Skyrim worldspace, but when you say you are making a floating city in the middle of Skyrim I assume that means you have built it in the Tamriel worldspace, above the existing Skyrim, rather than it's own new worldspace like Blackreach has? If so then you also have to consider that parts of existing Skyrim will be loading at the same time as your town, which is not the case with Blackreach.

Although I cannot directly help I have tried to offer advice based on my experience (both direct experience of building a new town, and direct experience of building a floating location above Skyrim). Whether you take this advice or not is up to you.

Best of luck, however you choose to do this.

Sorry if I sounded ungrateful or negative in my last post, it was not my intention. You obviously know more about CK then I do and I appreciate all the help and info I can get.

The City is as big as one full worldspace cell and is as far up as High Rothgard and its part of the Tamriel worldspace. So only the city is being renderd when you are in it and it can't render the whole place (have to use LOD on all the outer walls). One house house should only need....lets say 50 objetcts all in all.

You think thats to much and would cause error with people? I'm currently doing some test about this too see if it causes some problems by creating as much ob objects as I can.

Do you know if there is some limits to a worldspace cell?

Thank you for your help.

Don't worry, you don't sound ungrateful, more that it sounded like you were just disregarding the advice.

They're aren't necessarily set limits on objects (there are on lights) but people with lower end PCs will have problems earlier. Even without crashes, every object and texture you put in will start to have a hit on fps and lag too. So even if it runs, it may not run well.

Personally, I wouldn't do it the way you are describing just because of lights. I will be stunned if you can light it all well (and interestingly) without running into problems with either lights not working at all, or them turning on and off as you move/look around. AND it's a pain to put lights inside buildings without them also lighting things outside when they shouldn't, and lights outside that end up lighting inside the buildings when they shouldn't.

Probably look at Whiterun for a better comparison than Blackreach, that only has LOD views outside the walls, and while it uses more building types than your town, all it's interiors are separate cells and it is already at the limit of what most people's machines will run without crushing their fps.

My idea, have the bottom of the city rock showing in the sky, maybe with outer walls visible (Idk what it'll look like) and have a scripted teleportation to the city, so it's really a new area. That way you don't have to worry about loading up anything other than your city

Great idea, but the thing is I want to be able to just walk up on the outer wall and look down and if you look from inside the city you can still see some mountains. I have already planed for a cool teleporting system that will go to cool places around skyrim then just the capitals. And the city is so far up nothing exept the city will load up.
