FNIS Issue

Hey all first time poster here,

So I'm sort of just getting into using more extensive and custom mods like XPSME and FNIS. I've downloaded FNIS and set it up according to the guide found on the description page of the mod in Vortex. After following the steps and coming to the deploy stage after installing and enabling, I get the message Updating Animation (FNIS) as seen in the screenshot, however it never completes. I've allowed this to load for upwards of 2 hours and it still has not gone away. I've attempted to uninstall and reinstall using the steps found in that video as well, but the same issue has cropped up. Is there a way to resolve this?

Try to install FNIS manually to a temp folder (a folder you create somewhere outside Steam).

Start this FNIS. Then what happens? Does the FNIS window pop up? Press the Update button. FNIS should bring some warnings, but finish anyway.

For example (bad) AVs, or .NET problems on your machine, can make FNIS not execute.

I downloaded FNIS to a temp folder and executed it, I got this:

Can you try again with FNIS is the location it's expecting in the error?

He shouldn't do that. It will not show anything else, but without Vortex it will not find any mods either. But it brings garbage to his Skyrim Data.

What it shows is that there is probably no AV and no .NET issue involved. Question is, why is there an error message in the Vortex log without any apparent FNIS issue. Probably a question for tannin.

What you, Thatoneguy, could probably help, is to check with the Windows Event Viewer Eventvwr.msc if there is anything apparent in the Windows log at the time of an Vortex error message. Maybe it has to do with "C:\Program Files(x86)". You shouldn't leave Steam there when you want to mod Skyrim.

Whether or not Vortex is running, FNIS will find all the deployed mods.

Unlike MO 2, Vortex hard links are persistent, whether or not Vortex is active.

He just has a bad path to the executable. It has to be set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users,

whether executed stand alone or from Vortex dashboard. (I try to always make it a point to not correct Fore - but sometimes I can't help myself...)

Ok, you are right. I got confused always with these different mod manager strategies without using either one of them. So it might be a good idea to test the way Pickysaurus has proposed. Sorry for the confusion.

Hmm... talking about. I might switch from NMM to Vortex myself. I always thought (because of MO) that while developing FNIS I cannot use a virtual install MM. But I can ..... :)
