Well, not sure how to address the Nord thing. I guess my char sides with them because the Forsworn are generally hostile towards her and she'll kill them on command from the Jarl of Markarth. So I suppose that can be seen as carrying out missions for the Nords.

But after listening to Madanach and reading "Madmen of the Reach", deep down my char sympathizes with the Forsworn. She'll back off when she meets the clans of "non-hostile" (initially) Forsworn in the Reach when they tell her too. And she's even gotten into the odd mess when she gets a little to close to see if, maybe, just maybe, that group of Forsworn up ahead aren't really out to do her harm. But, man, they can be a fickle bunch. I've noticed this especially since 1.7/Dawnguard, but there's a couple pretty big roaming Forsworn clans in the hills just a touch E. of Markarth that'll barely give her a second look (sometimes even wishing her a "good morning" etc.) But, next thing she knows, they're streaming from the hills after her. I think it's if they get aggro'd by something else. That "something else" on 2 recent occasions being a dragon. After exchanging pleasantries her and Serana got attacked by a dragon and all of a sudden that same bunch of, now very p*****d off, Forsworn came streaming down the hill. After it was all over, there were 16 (yes 16) Forsworn corpses strewn about (along with one smoldering dragon skeleton). Luckily Serana had kept the dragon busy while the Forsworn stupidly came down this somewhat narrow path almost single file. Fairly easy pickins with her Legendary & dual-enchanted Daedric bow. /end rambling

Having said all that, my char is still kinda shaking her head as to why she sided with the Silver Bloods by killing Madanach during her jail break. She still has a hard time reconciling her feelings about that.

In game, generally the Nords. There are far too little chances for the player to have a left-wing stance, and given the game's world, its not really going to start supporting equality and peace. Its a feudal system, and as such, its pretty much racism and war.

However, in reality, I support the Forsworn, too an extent. They are fighting for their homeland, but seem to hold strong ethnic values, and are incredibly nationalist. If they decided to fight against the ruling class of Markarth, and not against the Nords as a whole, I'd reconsider.

I'll answer this from a personal viewpoint, since every character I play in this game has his/her own perspective on the various political issues in Skrim. My answer is none of the above ... an important omission in the list of options. Didn't you consider the possibility that all of them have gone off the deep end?

Nords: I think the game has established them as mostly (although not universally) racially-biased. IRL I hate racism, and it's rampant in Skyrim. Every single Nord in combat has the option to say "Skyrim is for the Nords!", you know. I can understand that they're victims of the Aldmeri oppression that caused the Empire to cow down and be a nice little todie for the Dominion, but extending their hatred to all races except Nords is going a bit far in my book. Thumbs down.

Forsworn: Again, they're victims. They've already experienced the totality of what Nords are now just beginning to experience. I think it's rather ironic, to say the least. I could almost sympathize with them, as the first humans to settle Skyrim, only to be forced out of their (now) native lands by an invasion force. Kinda reminds you of the American Indians doesn't it? However, they've allowed their hatred for the invaders to drive them down the dark path, and they show themselves as cruel and heartless. Thumbs down.

Silver-Bloods: This family is as corrupt as the Black-Briar family and I personally think that Skyrim would be a better place without either of them. What they can't get with their money they pay sell-swords to get for them. There's not much more to say about them. Thumbs down.

My quick answer to all this? Nuke the entire region. By the time it cools off maybe someone with a more balanced head on his shoulders will take over and rebuild the Reach as a peaceful community, rather than a country at war with itself.

I'd love to support the Forsworn, if they didn't keep trying to kill me.

Especially annoying as a Breton.

The Forsworn needed their own missions IMO, and something tied to that which forces you to choose sides before they attack you.

Exactly my thoughts.....Though I play a Nord, I do love the dialog with Madannoch concerning that.... ....Madannoch tears a few strips off....

There is a modder looking into having the Forsworn all reverting to friendly faction if you help Madannoch...I am looking forward to that....as I do sympathize with the Forsworn, they copped and continue to cop a very raw deal....A displaced people treated as something much lesser in their own homeland, their anger makes sense....I don't like the extreme violence and anger, but do understand what's driving it.

As for RP perspective, I gave my Nord a detailed back story explaining his lack of history in Skyrim....he is also tribal (Warrior) from the dividing ranges bordering Skyrim and Hammerfell....giving him an RP reason for his empathy towards the Forsworn.

What I would love to see eventually added to that upcoming mod just mentioned would be something of a quest involving the Dovahkin acting as a go between encouraging and brokering council between Madannoch, Elisif and the Jarl of Markarth (can't remember his name)...including reparations, equal rights, etc....

On my first play-through I tried hard to sympathize with the Forsworn.

I had talked to the Jarl of Markarth and deemed him to be an outstanding tool. The local Nords appeared to be a pack of contemptible chauvinists obsessed with keeping the Reachmen "in their place." And then... the Reachmen... just would not stop attacking me!

Desperation led me to freeing Madanach. The stories of the Reachmen in the mines began to rekindle my empathy. I freed the whole lot of them, laid low one of the accursed Silver-Bloods, and then... they just would not stop attacking me!

I had been a Breton this whole time. Eventually, I decided to visit their places of worship and dwelling, determined to find answers as to why they hated me so. What I found was disturbing. Evidence of mass-scale animal (and human?) sacrifice, kidnapping innocent children from Karthwastern, constant slaughter of traveling merchants and civilians, consorting with foul hagravenz... the morbid litany just would not end.

The Forsworn indeed got shafted by the Nords, but they have steered what had once been The Bullet Train of Justice directly off of The Cliff of Blind and Irrational Hatred. I now rank them lower than bandits, certainly lower than sabrecats, bears, rats, and skeevers.

Now I sympathize with Bothela. And slay the hordes of Forsworn raiders with a crooked smile on my face.

Hm... Breton cavemen who hang out with Hagravens, or an established power with huge silver reserves and an unassailable defensive position?

Call me a pragmatist, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

I'm a sucker for the underdog
