HeyYou
In your own opinion is your self awareness a consciousness made up just for you? Would you consider having your conscious self awareness of your present consciousness of all your conscience decisions be installed in an indestructible vessel; for all eternity? Would I like to be immortal? You bet. But, NOT if it means just being data on a drive somewhere..... I want to be able to move about, interact with my fellow man, (and woman......) and LIVE life. Not merely exist.
Deleted54170User
You prefer the corporeal physique over the mechanical then. Life would be limited to only mechanical thought interaction unless the creators of a robot replacement could go as far as including functional body parts that allow physical interaction. Have you ever wondered about if it is possible to have your conscious self awareness transferred to a human clone of your younger self?
montky
RE Post #1the first question:is your self awareness a consciousness made up just for you?I don't comprehend this question as presently posed - it appears too post-structural/ existential metaphysics.I understand this question to be "What is sentience?"which would be complicated. the second question;would you consider having your conscious self awareness of your present consciousness,of all your conscience decisions,be installed in an indestructible vessel; for all eternity? This question is also complex; I interpret this second question to be"do you think life-extension/ biological immortality is something you'd want to consider if you could?" That is also complicated -it gets "ship of theseus" / semblance paradox-y and 'of the same' issues arise.------I would prefer to retain as much of my "Connectome & Biome",body and mindstate together, for as long as possible.Only together; mind and our body, does sentience form(from my approach to 'what is sentience") as we presently understand it. Deleted54170User
What is our conscious self awareness? Sentience? Information of kinds have value to people who are willing to pay for it. If our conscious self awareness might be like an instrument we can fine tuned so it is better might there be someone willing to pay for it to do something with. If so a value might be put upon it like any instrument we can fine tune. Is the condition called sentience a valuable commodity?
montky
from post #4 What is our conscious self awareness? Sentience? That's an open question,it depends, on your approach to "Philosophy of Mind" and "Theory of Mind". some would say that 'the sapience window'is the conscious self-awareness - and that 'sentience' is more strictly 'autonomic' <--- see "The Nuns Experiment"and "Metacognitive Telepresence" trials. without getting into spirituality or metaphysics, which are beyond the scope of NMM to consider in detail - though which do inform peoples approach,I recommend checking out:J C Venter, H DeGaris, J R Searle, S Greenfield, K Wilber, S Haack etc... RGMage2
Have you ever wondered about if it is possible to have your conscious self awareness transferred to a human clone of your younger self? While that sounds like a good idea, I'm pretty sure my younger self would tell me to bugger off. If we ever could do something like that I think we would be in for the mother of all human rights battles. Personally, if I had a younger clone of myself, I'd be happy just to try and raise the kid to be better than me rather than burdening him with the memories of all my mistakes. Deleted54170User
Mistakes we made, often, give us the sense to turn a bad moment in our past into a correct act that we intended to do. With you involved you still may show the way to correctly building a future, and yet, the child will make the same mistakes you did if not having learned them from you first. So when you aim at a nails head, and yet, smack your thumb with the hammer he knows not how it pains you and then only remembers his pain if it happens to him. Give him your memories of that moment and share the pain your mind holds, then he may be the wiser, and never let his focus stray from the hammer to the nail. Thanks. I opened up S Haack and while reading her profile I saw others who might be of interest. It's been such a long time since my college daze days and the picture of Hilary Putnam stood out among the others. My designs that I had hoped to study are again refreshed. To think that the sense I might be dying has brought me back to the point where I was at University. Taking 101 courses to find my interest and forge a real life existence off campus or get tenure and do it. Thanks again.
