Emsky968
Head's up cuz this isn't going to be the calmest of posts. I am rather POed to the max. DISCLAIMER : I am not directing this anger at anyone particular. I am not 100% blaming anything on Vortex as I have made mistakes as well. I am blaming the lack of clarity and instruction given by vortex on how exactly some of these features work. They seem to have added some sneaky turn about but that I have yet to see in any tutorials or Vortex videos and these seem to be what's causing the biggest of problems. Again I am ranting and asking for help at the same time. It's a bad combination but I am sick of spending time and effort in trying to mod when the smallest piddly thing wrecks it all in a split second. Awhile ago I posted that since the last update really messed up deployment and ruined my game by messing up some file path and blah blah, it wasn't fixable and I had to re-install all my mods.It wasn't 100% Vortex fault as I knew there was a risk of rolling back updates, some people gave very bad advice of doing so and I followed it and it messed a lot of sheet up. That was VERY bad on me for having listened. I was mad so I said I was gonna move to MO2 and give up on Vortex. Well after I calmed down and Vortex updated, seemingly fixed the issue. So, here we go...Cuz my game was all kinds of messed up with being unable to re-install my mods, despite them having been backed up with Vortex, I had to start fresh. That means Fresh game install and Fresh Vortex install. I went through VERY extra care to un-install and remove ALL traces of the mods I had installed through Skyrim Se and Vortex. They were gone, POOF, fresh install done. I started installing mods again (Which I am not a noob to!) and off the bat started having funky problems with textures. I spent 2 whole days trying to resolve the problem!!!! Finally as of today I fixed it but wait... Something else wasn't right. I have an LOD of a house mod but when I get close to where the building should be...there's no building. Why is there no building you might ask? I uninstalled that building 2 months before this mess happened. There was 0 traces of this house mod anywhere. Then I look around at some other textures...but wait...I don't have these textures installed so why are they there?! I looked through my Skyrim Data folder to confirm they aren't in the folder. I looked in my new Vortex staging folder and confirmed they aren't there either. I looked at another Vortex download folder and low and behold... they aren't there either. You might be thinking, if they aren't in the Data folder and they aren't in the Vortex folders, then how are they even in the game, on a brand new game from a brand new install? Well friend that's the same exact bleep that I wanna know! I searched all over for any left over Vortex folders and I can't find diddly squat but clearly vortex is pulling it from some where, some how. Now here's the kicker... If I look in my Vortex plug in counter on the top right that number is accurate to the new mods I installed. HOWEVER, if I go to the dashboard it's got the same amount of mod that USE to be installed PLUS the current number I have installed. My theory is that some where....some how Vortex is still pulling old mods from somewhere. I have no freaking clue as to where since I ran through a deleted everything. I would love it if someone can offer any help regarding this or know anything about this problem or how I can fix it. I am guessing if my dumb butt is having this problem most likely someone else is going to run into as well if they haven't already. EDIT : I found 2 armor mods in my Skyrim Data folder than were from the old LO as well. I never re-installed them and they aren't in Vortex downloads or stage folder. So Vortex obviously put them there but I no clue how or why. I am thoroughly going through all my folders at the moment and still unable to find these ghost textures. HadToRegister
Did you completely uninstall Skyrim, or did you just delete things from the data folder and call it a clean install, because honestly, your problem so far is unique to you.So, start from the beginning What are your DOWNLOAD DIRECTORY and MOD STAGING FOLDER paths?Did you remove EVERY trace of MO2 and it's Virtual Install Folder? With Vortex I removed all the mods from the download and staging folder, made sure they were gone within the program then uninstalled and re-installed that as well. My Download Directory is in a folder on my secondary drive called "VortexDownloads" It's outside the program files folder. The Mod Staging folder is called "VortexMod" also placed outside the program folder. Skyrim Se and everything else is installed on the same drive as these folders. I never really used MO2, the furthest I got with it was installing it and attempting to install something and failing to get it properly set up. It's since then, been removed, I can't find it anywhere either so I assume I got rid of MO2 entirely.

OK, you said you 'removed the folders from the Data folder, then uninstalled Skyrim" You didn't move or copy those folders back once you reinstalled did you?, I'm trying to understand the point of moving folders out of the Data folder before Uninstalling, because that makes it sound like you were trying to preserve something and restore it to a clean install

Then I went into Steam, Skyrim SE and Uninstalled. I tend to delete mods out of data folder out of habit. I did not copy them back after reinstall. They were permanently deleted. You must still have a virtual, or hardlink somewhere that still exists. When you uninstalled, did you also remove your C;\users\YOUR NAME\Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder too?
