Vortex not starting up.

Hi,

I've just started using Vortex a few days ago until just now, where every time I start the program I only get the splash symbol which directly after stops responding. I've tried reinstalling the same and older versions. Nothing works. Which i also found a bit weird is that it opens three instances of itself, when i checked in task manager.

The only thing i can imagine could have caused this is i started using TES5Edit and LOOT just before it happend to clean up my mods. I didn't do any changes to any of the files though. Could you please look into this as i've seen people who have had similar problems and i've spent the last days working on modding my game. I am quite concerned about my files.

My logs folder is empty, so i can't provide that.

Versions i tried: 0.18.6, 0.17.11 and 0.16.15

My OS: Windows 10

I have around 190 mods installed.

Are you running it as an administrator?
If so, don't.

Also, someone had this same problem, and it ended up that there was a dialog box popup, that was showing up BEHIND the logo, so they couldn't see it.
However, I can't tell if you actually want help at this point, or have given up and are just ranting?

Vortex is ready, it just depends on how ready the person using it is ready to learn.

I'm running FO4 with 279 mods, FONV with 127 mods, SSE with 225 mods, and Oblivion with 133 mods.

Fix this get goddamn program and don't encourage me to use it if it doesn't work. Pull it of your site until it's ready and do us all a favor.

quite the tantrum you had there.

vortex works - don't know what else to tell you. have you disabled uac on your system by any chance?

I'm not running it as administrator, although I've tried that as well after it stopped working. It doesn't open anything else except for the logo. As soon as I click on it it says that it has stopped responding and that I need to close the program.

you state that you have tried several different versions of vortex, and that you have run vortex as an administrator, but its not clear to me in what order you tried those versions of vortex, and i cannot help but wonder if the actions of installing different versions, and running as admin has caused your vortex install to become unusable?

For example, there can be issues going back from newer releases to older releases, and warnings are issued saying that if you upgrade from version x to version y, then fallback is no longer possible. there are also warnings about running vortex as admin, and there are dozens of posts in this forum where that is discussed and the short answer is it will cause you way more problems than it solves.

if your vortex install is corrupted to such an extent that it won't start, (try and start it after a reboot of your system - literally turn it off and turn it back on again and see if that helps), then you may have no choice but to remove it and re-install it from scratch.

Doing this would also mean that you would have to delete the vortex folders in appdata. this will completely remove all trace of vortex from your system, allowing you to do a fresh install, but it will, unfortunately, mean that you've got to reinstall all your mods and everything else all over again.

you could make a backup of your vortex folders in appdata and after re-installing the newest version, simply copy them back into place and see if that works - but no guarantees.

if you don't want to do that (and I wouldn't blame you), then wait until Monday when the community team return to work, and they may be able to offer you a bit more insight.

I used the latest version.

0.18.6

It worked fine for the first few days then it suddenly stopped working.

The reason i tried to install older version because i thought that would resolve my issue, which it didn't.

I wouldn't want to use Vortex ever again after that no. I'm not going through that trouble again. So if i feel like reinstalling everything completely, I'll definetly switch over to mod organizer.

if you have reached the end of the road with vortex, then yes, i agree with you, it's probably for the best that you go off and try another mod manager. just remember to follow the instructions and use it correctly. if you use any program incorrectly and bad things happen, that's not the fault of the program.
