Your Paths are going to be different than the paths I showed in the screenshot, depending on where you have Skyrim SE installed.

Which is probably why you're getting an error message

im pretty sure that i have the paths correct, i went back through it and they were correct, but i keep getting the "This patcher requires the following mods, please add them to your load order :Dual Sheath Redux.esp" pop up. do i need to change my TARGET, COMMAND, START, or am i just being ignorant?

The START IN, TARGET, and COMMAND need to match the paths on your system.

For instance, is JAVA installed on your system at C:\Program FIles\Java\jre1.8.0_201\bin ?

I imagine the version number for the folder is different now.

Is SKyrim installed on your computer at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SkyrimSE\Data\ ?

The Screenshot shows the path to OLD Skyrim, if you have Skyrim SE installed, and you copied the command line EXACTLY, then you put in the wrong path.

I didn't copy it exactly, i updated everything to what matched my path (to my best knowledge)
were you able to view the pictures i posted? if not understandable, idk how to post them

my current java is version is jdk1.8.0_201, so i placed that in. that fixed my "no java detected" problem.
my path to skyrim se is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition

it looks right to me but it is still having an error

thank you btw for helping with me

You command line ends with C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\data\

So I've read that Ecotone Dual Sheath is a remake of Dual Sheath redux for SSE https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17763 and is supposed to be easier to install, but you'll also need the Required Mods on the Description page, along with reading how to install it.
