Lueskywalker899
Two days ago, I switched from NMM to Vortex 0.18.9 after several failed attempts. I installed all my mods I had on NMM manually, and all seemed to be running well. I loaded in to Fallout and while creating a new character with the "Start me up" mod, that two overlays were appearing for the mod giving me two of everything. I decided to back out and manually delete my NMM mods which I had forgotten to do. When I went to load back in through Vortex, none of my mods were working, save for one that changed the game's title screen. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling all my mods, but to no avail. I tried checking if my game was the issue, and I reinstalled F4SE into the directory I had downloaded Fallout to (My portable hard drive), but this only made it so that the one working mod (The loading screen one) no longer appeared. After deciding to reinstall the game completely to start fresh and from scratch, I loaded Fallout up this morning to find not only all my old files still remained, but now the game crashes on startup. If there is any more information I can give to fix my Fallout and finally be able to use Vortex, I would be extremely appreciative. Sincerely, Lukeskywalker899
HadToRegister
Your problem stemmed from you installing all your mods with VORTEX, ON TOP of all your mods already installed by NMMOne mod manager can't tell what the other one has installed, so when you installed your mods with Vortex, ON TOP of your Mods from NMM, and then UNINSTALLED your Mods from NMM.NMM went and messed up everything you had installed with Vortex. You probably could've fixed all that by uninstalling the mods with NMM (like you did), then with just a PURGE in Vortex, then a RE-DEPLOY, instead of uninstalling everything SETTINGS------>INTERFACE------->ENABLE ADVANCED MODE then on the mods tab click PURGE MODS
Lueskywalker899
I'm going to have to try this is a little bit, thank you! I hope it works, and if not, I'm sure I'll find my way back here!
Lueskywalker899
So, I got my game running again thank goodness. However (and I know this was briefly covered in another post but not this part that I saw, when I reinstall F4SE what do I put in the "Start In" section? However (and I know this was briefly covered in another post but not this part that I saw, when I reinstall F4SE what do I put in the "Start In" section? Similar to this, TARGET always points to the actual EXE, like F4SE_Loader.exe START in, just specifies the Directory to start in, so basically it will be the same path, without the exe. Here's an example using SKSE64See how the only difference is, that the START in, only has the Path, while TARGET has the EXE as well?
Lueskywalker899
Well, I have the directories right which is great. Now I just need to get my game to load without crashing and I hopefully might be set. I'm going to try launching without any mods to see if it's the launcher or the game that is currently the issue. Launching and crashing is usually a missing master, or, a problem with SkyUI not being installed correctly, or a wrong version of F4SE, or a mod that uses F4SE not being updated
Lueskywalker899
So I attempted to load the game with no mods by using the purge function you had highlighted earlier. When I opened it, I managed to get to the game without crashing, but the loading screen was completely black except for the menus [New Game, Continue, etc]. Could that be because of missing masters? I haven't been sure of it, but ever since I reinstalled Fallout 4 a lot of my old files like my ENB were there. I don't know if that could be causing any issues because I am woefully unaware of what should and should not be there because I never actually used the files. This is my first time using anything other than NMM so I'm afraid I may have messed something else up which would stink because I would hate to be wasting your time on a non-vortex related issue. If your old stuff is "still there", then you either didn't remove it completely with NMM, and you didn't remove it completely with Vortex, because Vortex is reading an old "Vortex.Deployment.json file rather than the new one. Or it's reading an old load order and plugin txt Did you install Vortex to a completely different folder after you uninstalled it?
Lueskywalker899
They are both on my (D:) drive, and I haven't changed the file directories for anything. I just used the default My vortex is:(D:) > Seagate backup drive > Vortex Mods > Downloads > Fallout 4 My Fallout is :D: > The Gaming Folder > Steamapps > Common > Fallout 4 Also, If I understand right, I didn't uninstall Vortex, Just Fallout. Should I reinstall Vortex, and if so, where should I reinstall it to?
