hoofhearted4
ive played other MMOs, but am by no means a veteran. and i actually think this game is very noob friendly. there isnt much to get. the most complex thing in the game so far is the Crafting, which i did have to go to an outside source (meaning not in game explanations) to figure out what i was supposed to do, but other then that its a really straight forward game. you just run and do Heart Quests and World Events and whatnot. and later Dungeons (Which ill be doing soon, as im lvl 38, and i believe dungeons start at lvl 40) im not quite sure what you are having a hard time grasping or what the wiki isnt helping you with. ive found the wiki pretty useful. i use it to figure out how to get to certain Points of Interests, or to figure out what my Trait lines do and etc. but as youve said, the community is pretty helpful, and if they ever arent, we here are always helpful!! :D
ginnyfizz
Well, for example, the fact that I couldn't find my way around and didn't understand that I had to go through that Asura Gate. In the walkthrough of that quest in the Wiki there is nothing to say that you have to go through that Asura Gate in Divinity's Reach to Lion's Arch and thence to Gendarran Fields. It only tells you that you what to do when you get to the relevant part of Gendarran Fields. When you are new to the MMO malarkey that is the sort of thing you don't understand, and you can't save and go back to that save in the case that you are wrong. It's the wrong way around for me, once I can find how to get from one area to another I am OK at finding my target, it's the navigating between parts of the game world I can't do. hoofhearted4
i think its because they assume you realize the Giant Green Marker on your map over the World Gate means go through it lol.....also, nothing bad is going to happen if you go through the wrong gate. its not like you will be immediately attack by lvl 80 Monsters. and even if you were, youd just die and try again. no biggie. navigating between worlds is no big thing either. once you get to Lions Arch, all the starting worlds are linked right there by Asura Gates. once you get to that world, you can fast travel at any time to that world just like you would any other Fast Travel Way Point. you dont have to be in that world to travel to there. however, icons like Vendors and Hearts and stuf wont show up unless you are in that world, only the Way Points show up. ginnyfizz
That's just what they are getting wrong...assuming. And look at what happened with me going in Kessex Hills from the wrong direction, I kept getting killed but in the end it was you that explained how to approach it from a lower level, not the Wiki! Thanks for the explanation hoof. But I am still baffled by it all, doesn't seem to click with me at all. Which is a shame as once I actually get there I am not bad at playing and like to try and log on at least once per day and earn some points for the Guild. I get a bit frustrated with how hard it is to get to some of the vistas and other stuff as well. It is when your hands are like mine anyway, anything that requires finger gymnastics is torture. hoofhearted4
i went the same way as you did. i didnt find out till after there was a better way. that was really just the game making it harder then it needed to be. that had nothing to do with the game being bad at communicating what you needed to do. you have to realize, that assuming some things needs to happen. Assuming you can relate Green Quest Marker and Asura Gate equals going through the Gate is no different than assuming Sell Items at a vendor means you Sell Your Items in your Inventory to the Vendor for money. its not exactly geared towards Veteran MMOs so much as it is geared towards any one who has ever play a game. but trust me, it doesnt get much more complex. as i said, the hardest thing in the game is crafting, and once you get that down, its not very complex either, and if you think Vistas are hard you definitely dont want to try the jumping puzzles. ive only done a small one and it annoyed me. i dont really plan on going after them much. even if (which you are) rewarded for doing them....Vistas dont have much complex jumping to them at all. its more just finding the route that leads to them. i havent had any trouble in getting to any of them, jumping wise. havent really had any trouble finding any of them either, with the exception of a couple in Lions Arch! had to use YouTube for some :X though i have reached a point in my story quest, which is a lvl 39 quest in a lvl 45-55 area. which i find is sort of stupid. i was able to get the first part cause it was near the beginning. the next part is in the middle of the land, so i guess ill have to go back to doing some more exploring until im like lvl 45 before i continue the story quest. still got two more Starting Areas to explore (Norn and Charr) so no worry on finding stuff to do :P
ginnyfizz
The vistas ARE hard and complex if you have hands like mine, crippled by rheumatoid arthritis and cannot mash the keyboard quickly or hard enough or in the right sequence. (Even on my very light touch keyboard.) It's the fact that I PHYSICALLY cannot do it, I can see what you have to do in theory but my disability prevents me from doing it. There was a part in The Witcher 2 that I simply could not do for the same reason and had to get a friend to send me a savegame immediately after that QTE. I almost had to give up on Skyrim because the UI was so console and therefore torture, until i found SkyUI. Am a bit sad because it really looks like I am not going to be able to do very much of this game, since so much of it seems to depend on having the nimble fingers that I no longer have, which is a pity. Lisnpuppy
Hey guys. I actually play on other servers so I don't get to play with you. However I wanted to share also. I RP and I made this thread with a little backstory of one of my characters. My link
JimboUK
@Lisnpuppy I've never role played a character, I do wonder sometimes if I'm missing out. Anyway tonight the WvW went really well, although we did have a slight advantage. :-D http://i.imgur.com/SOuTF.jpg http://i.imgur.com/02NNC.jpg

ginnyfizz
Darn it, I was LOLing so hard I forgot to take a screenie of my taking out a Moa with an exploding pumpkin. No doubt there will be more opportunities in the Halloween period.Like I said once I actually get in the part of the game world I need to be in I am not bad at playing, level 29 now and not put a huge amount of hours in, always participate in a few events, revive others, throw pumpkins, have food fights...
