Fallout 4 not starting via Vortex

don't know if you'll have time to reply but you seem really helpful and i don't know what to do. my target is to your demonstrated path and its set to my primary, i'm still getting a black screen for a second upon crashing (no error message or anything) while launching from vortex. starting up from steam works but a few of my mods aren't working along with MCM not being detected. thank you if you reply : )

Try starting the game directly from the F4SE_Loader.exe in the game directory. See if the game starts. Steam should already be running in the background when you try that.

Do you make it to the main menu?

 

does not even open. quick black screen then crash. no pop up or anything..... i tried deleting all my mods from the fallout 4 folder, uninstalling the game, reinstalling the game and my mods and now it opens through steam enhough for me to get to the main menu then crashes again

Delete the files in my games\fallout 4. Move your saves elsewhere, if you have any.

yeah i figured i was doing something wrong :( so i tried to delete everything in the fallout 4 folder and reinstall the game, but after enabling my mods it says a lot of them are redundant even though ive checked through them and that isnt true (mostly individual cosmetic stuff or things i absolutely deleted from the folder). even just doing what vortex says and disabling the stuff its asking me to do f4se still wont open the game and steam opens to the title screen and then crashes. obviously i dont know too much, havent modded stuff since i was like twelve so i appreciate the time taken to solve what is surely a user error.

I suspect that's a missing master crash. Uninstall ALL of your mods. (Vortex has a Purge Mods option) see if JUST the game and DLC's will start.

Cool. So, add your mods one or two at a time, make sure the game starts. Having a 'vanilla' save right before you exit the vault isn't a bad idea. :D

why are some mods taking priority over others? for example, start me up, fallsouls, ghoul mask, armorsmith extended and even the mod config menu are ALL being labeled redundant?
