More of a suggestion than anything.... Please don't show the parent "download" directory in the mod list. Also move mods that are removed/deleted to recycle bin....

I just erased the modpack I spent a week building as I'm getting ready to install it all by trying to remove the download folder from the list, because it was in the way. Vortex didn't remove it from the list, it removed it from existence, including all my mods, with no way to "undo". No ctrl-z for me!

Hereâs a recommendation for you: donât use vortex. What you should be using is Mod Organizer 2. It is still, hands down, the best mod organizer out there, and is being very actively developed.

Uh huh. Thanks for the super informative input. I've used MO2 before. It's fine n all. Frankly, there's no perfect mod tool and had issues with MO2 before, and I was figuring, "sure, I'll give the new one a shot." This was a mishap, and something I'll recover from, thankfully, just something I've learned I'll have to deal with in continuing to use this tool. I decided to stick with it for this time around building a FO pack, and try to help them improve. People use the Nexus to get their mods, and I'd hope Nexus would be able to manage the mods properly. It's not the worst tool I've seen so far, but that one big hiccup set me back at least a full day. Just glad Nexus keeps a "download history" on hand....

MO2 was created by the person who is developing Vortex, which is "being very actively developed"

I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about

You need to give more info, because Vortex by default, if you set it up properly, doesn't show any "Parent Download Directory in the mod list", which means that you have set up Vortex incorrectly.

I'm going to hazard a guess, but if your DOWNLOAD directory, is showing up in your mod list, then what you did was make your download directory and your mod staging directory the SAME directory.

Your DOWNLOAD Folder should NEVER show up in any list inside Vortex.

Out of curiosity, please post your DOWNLOAD Folder Path, and your MOD STAGING FOLDER path, because from the sound of it, you put your Download and Mod Staging Folder soehwere where you shouldn't have.

Yeah, I'm used to setting up most games I mod as a Mods\Downloads set up. in this case, D:\FO4Mods and D:\FO4Mods\Downloads

Vortex is the first one I've seen that doesn't like that. Strangely, from what you're saying, I could reverse that, for example FO4Mods\Installed, having the DL folder in the parent, and the extracted folder in the sub, and it'd work perfectly fine. Eitherway, I'll just slide my "working" mods directory a level down so they're side by side. This is why I shouldn't try to set up modpacks over the course of a week, mostly around 12-2am.

Yea, for one thing, Vortex can handle the subfolders by DEFAULT, so you don't need to make a D:\FO4Mods\Downloads and D:\FO4Mods\

BEcause it works the opposite way, which is how most systems work...

It's like this...

D:\Downloads\Fallout4\

D:\Downloads\Skyrim SE\

D;\Downloads\Fallout3\

etc...

And the MOD STAGING folder is something like

D:\Mods\Fallout4\

D:\Mods\Skyrimse\

D:\Mods\Fallout3\

What you're doing is completely backwards

DO NOT, put the DOWNLOAD and MOD STAGING folder as a Parent or sub of each other EVER

The reason WHY you think this is "OK" is because NMM allowed you to do incredibly bad stuff like that because NMM didn't warn you of ANYTHING bad.

Vortex prevents you from doing all that garbage that NMM allowed you to do without telling you.

Well, Vortex didn't exactly warn me about the issue either. There wasn't a "hey, don't put the download folder IN the mods folder! Would have saved me a bit of a time. As would at least moving the folder to recycle bin instead of outright clearing it off my hard drive.

Anyway, I wanted em kept close. I also don't own Skyrim in any capacity, and don't intend to. As for FO3, I preferred NV's mods and Tale of Two Wastelands.

I ended up settling on D:\FO4Mods\Downloads and D:\FO4Mods\Working
