Ads are waaaaaay to much agressive

Hi.

I do know that everything has a cost, and keep up and running a service portal has its own.

I do know that not everybody is up to buy a premium account and that the obvious alternative for money its ads.

I do believe that one SHOULD do its part by NOT blocking ads on a website that offers so much. And I don't.

But...

You keep showing me over and over (the same) videos on a very obtrusive way, at EVERY refresh even if I'm on the same spot of the site, just navigating back or forward trough a search... man thats too much. Really.

I think you're trespassing your right of doing legitimate business, by shoving me down an enormous amount of videos and, worst, you're blocking my view!! That ad window is TOO LARGE!!

Please, reconsider your ad policy. There is a fair mid way that we can meet on.

Thanks.

first, ads are selected by the ad company not the site

second, Supporter is $2 (USD) and removes ads for life

Well, sites like this are waaaaaay too expensive to run. Want to get rid of Ads and do your part to support the site? Go Supporter, (https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/store/category/2-supporter-membership/). Membership is just one pound 29 (adjust for your Country of origin) and will give you Ad free bliss forevermore. Plus you get the "feel good" perk of supporting this forum. Just saying.

As premium membership is facultative, I understand that one is free to rightfully use and enjoy the services with or without it.

As I state in my post I'm all about supporting to the level I use. For a now and then "replay fever" of skyrim or witcher I dont think i need to be premium, as I'm ok with the speed limit and the ads Nexus imposes.

My post was not about be premium or not, but that the ads model is more agressive that it should be, and my feeling that its overwhelming my experience, forcing me choose between to be premium or to be annoyed when I dont want neither.

People may start to turn ad blocks on again, and thats no good for anyone. so, why not turn it down a level or two? Is it really necessary to show me a video on every navigation I take on a list of mods? It wouldn't be enough show me one for mod category I enter, or better yet, one at each "x" time interval, disregard where I am at the site?

Trying to make constructive criticism here, not my intention to flame a war.

Thanks.

The choice mentioned by the two respondents was "supporter" and not "premium." There's a big difference.

You are right indeed about the fellow's posts, but the option offered by Nexus goes by the name "Premium", and that I was talking about.

The option in the link goes by the name "Supporter Membership." Look again.

Please, no one wants a flame war, especially me. As for the site being free to use you are under a misconception. The site costs a huge amount to operate. A huge amount. Somebody must pay the bills around here. However, there is never a monetary charge to use the site. You pay for your share by putting up with Ads. That's fair, after all. Like you I simply hate dealing with adverts and that's why I went Supporter. Advert free. Later I signed up for Lifetime Membership. Just because I appreciate the forums here. One way or another I hope that you will continue to remain a Forum member.

Hi, thanks for being so kind.

I think my point is being solely missed:

  • No doubt about the cost to keep things running;
  • No doubt ads its the only way to go if someone doesn't want (and it is in their right) to become a paying member;
  • The fact that Nexus offers two models for accessing their goods, means that they must be okay with whatever I choose;
  • I DO believe that the very least one that use the site should do is TO NOT BLOCK THE ADs;

We can not, for the sake of good argumentation and constructive criticism, put this on a "you go premium (or supporter)" debate, because its not about it I'm talking about. Thats another discussion. Sure, its super nice those kind of account, but maybe, for some personal reason, one simple dont want to.

Then, back to the ads: They are just too eager. Bad design. It is a bad choice of design to pop up an ad at every click. That's just it. It became annoying VERY quickly and people will turn ad blocs on. Simple like that.

Do keep the ads, but, what about popping one at the main mod list, then none as the navigation goes, and one at every other mod page entered.

It's a win, win.

Just my humble opinion.
