Vortex Shows Mods for all Games Instead of for Selected Game

Vortex is managing three games for me: Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, and Skyrim SE. When I have Vortex switch to Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3, in the mod section I see just the Fallout 4 mods or just the Witcher 3 mods (as it should be).

When I switch to manage Skyrim SE and go to the mod section, not only do I see all of the mods I have for both Skyrim SE and Fallout 4, but if I right-click on a Fallout 4 mod (eg. AWKCR) and tell it to open in Nexus, it opens a Skyrim SE mod page in Nexus.

It has been like this for awhile now (I'm pretty sure since I switched from NMM to Vortex).

Any tips/help would be appreciated!

Thanks

How do you have your mod staging folder set up?

The folder and subfolders should be something along these lines

D:\Mod Staging\Skyrimse

D:\Mod Staging\Fallout4

D:\Mod Staging\Thewitcher3

HOPEFULLY, you don't have something like this

D:\Mod Staging\Thewitcher3

D:\Mod Staging\Fallout4\Skyrimse

I didn't change the default. So it is set to C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods

Is this path ok?

No. HTR will straiten you out. Default base should never include a game name.

Great, thanks for the help. A couple of quick questions about changing the mod staging folder:

1) When I change the mod staging folder, do I need to change/update any other settings?

2) Does the mod staging folder need to be on the same drive that Vortex is installed in? eg. Vortex and my games are on the C: drive, but I do have a D: drive as well.

Thanks again for the help.

I really don't want to step on an HTR reply, but:

Vortex can be installed on any drive.

Vortex downloads can be installed on any drive.

Your games can be installed on any drive - but where they are has to match what the Registry says.

Vortex mod staging folder has to be on the same disk partition as its game. No playing games with linked disks.

Mod staging folder must not be in the Vortex executable folder or the game folder. Make it someplace simple like C:\Vortex\Mods.

Yes, this path is ok.

While technically in the field you type-in your mod staging folder it displays as {USERDATA}\{GAME}\mods this is normally the same as c:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods in case you're modding SSE etc., and this is therefore the exact same directory.

Your Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 mod staging folders on the other hand is likely wrong, so you should check and make sure these are not given as example c:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods\witcher3\mods or something.

Yes, for all three of the games, the entry in the mod staging folder box is "{USERDATA}\{GAME}\mods. So they each have their folder in that path.

IS that your DOWNLOAD folder or the MOD STAGING FOLDER?

Because putting the MODS directory AFTER the game name is something you shouldn't do, even the examples given in Vortex shows the game name AFTER the Folder name

"D:\Vortex_Mods\skyrim"

My concern is that you have the Download Folder as

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\

And your Mod Staging Folder set as

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods

The reason I mention that, is other people have had the problem you're having and it turned out they had their game directories nested in each other

Instead of this

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\thewitcher3\mods

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\fallout4\mods

It should be this

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\mods\skyrimse\

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\mods\thewitcher3\

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\mods\fallout4\

To answer your other question, Only the Mod Staging Folder needs to be on the same drive as your games

The download folder for is "{USERDATA}\downloads", which ends up being "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\downloads".

That download path is the same for all three of the games. So it would appear that I need to change the download path so that they each have their own folder? I'm guessing that I should also change the mod staging path to match what you have above? Is it safe to just change it, or do I need to backup anything beforehand?

Thanks again.
