Hi everybody,

I would like to change some textures of the game, make my own mods etc... but I can't find any tutorial or information to help me yet.

Where can I find the textures? I am just able to modify mods from other authors and it make me sad (^^')

Thank you very much,

kind regards

groovie (france)

Making Textures for Dark Souls is easy:

=============================

1. Install DSFix (find it here in the Nexus)

2. Enable Texture Dumping and Texture overiding in the DSFix.ini

3. Play the Game. While you are playing, all the textures that are being loaded are dumped into the folder tex_dump as .tga files.

So if you want to change a certain kind of armor, make sure to equip it, and then end the game.

4. Now you have to browse through your tex_dump folder and find the right textures. This is a bit tedious, but you should be able to find it.

5. Load the .tga in Photoshop or the program of your choice and do your thing.

6. Save your texture in .png format (not .tga!) into the tex_override folder. Make sure to not change the filename, only the format.

7. Your modified texture should now show up ingame instead of the original.

This is definitely correct information. Let me add to it just a little by pasting what I put in the comments for a specific mod.

Because some people might be new to texture modding and want to know how to get this function enabled, Here are very simple instructions.

If you have installed DSfix there is a file called dsfix.ini in your data folder for dark souls. Open it with notepad.

Look for the part which says enableTextureOverride 0 (it's just a little up from the bottom)

Change the 0 to 1. Unless you plan to make your own texture mods from scratch, then do not bother editing enableTextureDumping. Please note, this adds a delay to your loading screens if you have texture mods added.

Save the file this way.

Go into the DSfix folder and you will find the folder tex_override

Just drag and drop ALL the png's from the texture mod you have downloaded into this folder. Done.

Needless to say, all this should be done while Dark Souls isn't on. After this is all done, go ahead and launch the game.

There will be a 4 second added load time to all of your save loading screens, including after death and after homeward bone or homeward miracle.

Enabling texture dumping adds another 4 seconds, so that's why I say don't bother with it unless you plan to make your own texture mods.

Hope this helps someone.

For me, it does not create the tex_dump folder, it says it will save into tex_override, but it does not create a single goddamn file. I have been messing with this for 3 hours now, and about to throw a fit. The textures I want are the ones for the Painting Guardian armor set. If anyone could provide it for me, since I cannot get it working, or explain to me what I am doing wrong, I would give praise to you!

Have you tried creating the tex_dump folder manually?

KGMeisenbacher, Try putting your png textures into a ZIP folder using 7zip or other zippy software.

I am having a bit of an issue myself atm. I am attempting to darken and reshade the elite knight armor so I can make parts of it look good with the black iron armor.

I have the texture dumps for both armors the problem is there there are 3-4 different files for eatch part of the armor that look the same but are different resolutions or shades. How do I figure out which file is the one that dark souls actually uses.

I tried edditing one that looked like the highest res for the knight helmet but it made no changes in game when I saved it into the text override folder as a .png
