Cobaltic
So basically... about a year ago, I used to install a lot of mods for fallout 4. After some complications I uninstalled the game. After a while reinstalled it because I missed playing it and for some reason, upon starting a new game, all my old mods were enabled again. Not ALL of them, just the mods that changed the game's graphics and sound effects. One such mod was a mod that changes the terrain to look snowy to give the impression that it's winter and for some reason this mod is now permanently always enabled whenever I attempt to deploy my current mod list EVEN THOUGH it was uninstalled. I can fix the issue by deleting the ini files, essentially returning the game to an unmodded state (because purging my current mods using vortex doesn't remove my old mods), but then that prevents me from playing the game with the mods I actually want loaded. I am almost certain it has something to do with Vortex as most evidence seems to point to it but I don't know how to fix it. Unless of course... I somehow manually remove my old mods from the ini files, but even then I don't even though what to remove and what line is associated with which mod. Right now I have two choices; 1: Play the game with my currently loaded mods and force myself to put up with the effect my old mods have on the game. Such as a permanent winter, a broken power armour interface and annoyingly loud sound effects and Elder Maxson sporting the SS insignia on his coat. 2: Play the game completely unmodded and be bored. Thanks in advance.
HadToRegister
When you uninstalled the game, did you PURGE the mods BEFORE you uninstalled the game, or did you just uninstall the game, while leaving the mods installed? Because what it sounds like, is Vortex is trying to restore your game to what it was previously, as if you never uninstalled the game.
Cobaltic
I used nexus mod manager last time. And no, I didn't purge the mods before I uninstalled.
HadToRegister
I used nexus mod manager last time. And no, I didn't purge the mods before I uninstalled. There's your problem. The information for the mods, is convinced the game and the mods are still installed. If you're ever going to uninstall a game, you should purge or uninstall the mods as well, especially if you're going to switch mod managers after a re-install
Cobaltic
So, how can I fix it?
HadToRegister
So, how can I fix it? You need to run NMM and see if it allows you to still uninstall the mods you abandoned when you uninstalled the game, and then do the same with Vortex. Then reinstall Vortex if you've gotten rid of all traces of the mods and start over from scratch, and the next time you uninstall a game, PURGE the mods or uninstall them first.
