Too much in the workbench?

I've read about item count limits, but the discussions I've seen usually talk about #s of 50k and up. And, from what I can gather, that's not even a hard limit. It's more that trying to take out huge amounts at once can cause lag, and I seem to recall someone posting that it could result in a bit of lost materials but I might be misremembering (again, we're talking 50k+, though why anyone would do that...). As you can tell, I haven't looked too hard at the issue but, fwiw, I can say that I have lots of items in my Sanctuary workshop in amounts from 1k to 10k and have never had any problem.

TLDR: 1000? Not even close to a worry.

I use Materials batch file, https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6880 , with no problem, this adds 10,000 of each material to your inventory, including crops. If you use this, be next to a workbench to transfer, then move the contents of your junk category to the workbench. Set up supply lines and you're good for a while. How much it affects frame rate and performance depends on your computer build, a low budget machine might/will have problems.

I have read somewhere that having over 1000 of any given item can cause problems. Anyone know of this, or have come across this in their gameplay?

I'm using the unlimited settlement supply surplus mod and had at times over 10K of purified water in my workbench. No problems at all.

Having huge numbers of 'stuff' in general in your workbenches causes Workshop mode to load more slowly. I use a mod that alters how that loading works, and now it simply doesn't matter how much stuff is in there, workshop loads almost instantly. (solid state drives probably don't hurt either.)
