DavidWhitefang
I began playing Oblivion on the default setting... it was challenging... But after I discovered one of my favorite mods, which is Exnems Rune Skulls, I've played on the most difficult level, from character creation to present, and will continue to do so... It is much more challenging, especially in the beginning... suddenly the the npc's comments of. 'I've fought mudcrabs harder than you!', make sense. For me, it helps to balance out the mods that would make me to powerful, later on. So, I'm curious if others do the same... or if you're content with the default level...? Of course if this has been asked before... redirect me please.

The existence of so many balance changing mods makes things harder. The actual player's experience with RPG kind games, and Oblivion by the way, have a deep impact over what is funnier to each of us. To answer the direct question on the thread, I play with 'normal' before getting a good weapon to my almost omnypresent Antamage (that is going directly to that weapon) and until reaching level 5... after this and depending the overhauls I'm using the difficulty slide is going all the way toward right. This is because the way the weapon reacts, becoming increasingly powerful with the character level and some attributes and skills, albeit keeping the need for caution alive. But some overhauls like OOO and now CUO are enough to keep the challenge up even at normal difficulty. MMM does the same, but I tend not using it because I think it turns the game a bit less RPG and a bit more PFS. A good thing to many people, so it's just a preference issue. Other mods may change this, unsettling the balance toward one side or another and so, at the end, it's aways a particular taste question and gaming environment. DavidWhitefang
I've never overhauled my entire game yet... any of the mods that have said they overhaul the entire original game (even though they are popular) I have bypassed, and never even downloaded. I definately like the challenge of being able to start out fresh in this game, and defeat it on it's highest difficulty level from start to finish... It is a challenge! LoginToDownload
That's a sort of hard question to answer... I play without the slider adjusted, but I play on OOO at a rather low level with a companion, bow-empowering mod, and Midas Magic. Certainly feels really challenging, though. DavidWhitefang
I have heard alot of mention about ooo, I'll try it someday... but since I haven't yet, what I mean is that without it, as soon as you exit the sewers, if you are playing at the highest difficulty setting, everythings a threat ~ there are no easy kills. you better be on your best, and it makes stealth and other skills mean more (as in more valuable, and you better level them up), if you use them. KingofCarnage18
I play on easy, then medium, then hard, then max settings... Its allows an excellent replay value with that method..

WrathOfDeadguy
I keep the slider at about 1/2. At higher settings, I find that enemies don't tend to die from the first stealth arrow, which is incredibly annoying- so I set the difficulty just high enough so they won't be pushovers and play characters with extremely low Endurance to compensate.
