Noob problems

Hi. My first introduction to Vortex was playing Fallout 4, and it was great. I now want to start playing Skyrim Special Edition, but I'm having problems. I went to the Dashboard and selected SSE before downloading any mods. I then went to the Mods tab in Vortex, expecting it to be empty since I was managing SSE, but to my surprise I found all of my Fallout 4 mods. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong, I just don't know what. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time and patience.

Look at how you specified your download directory.

Download folder should look something like: I:\Vortex\Downloads. It should not include the game name. I:\Vortex\Downloads\Fallout 4 would be wrong.

That's how mine are set up, it's what Vortex does by default if you let it.

D:\Vortex\Downloads\Fallout4

D:\Vortex\Downloads\FalloutNV

D:\Vortex\Downloads\Fallout3

D:\Vortex\Downloads\Skyrimse

Where is your Download Folder set to?

Also, where is your Mod Staging Folder set to?

You can set the Download Folder for each game like this, when I set it like that, Vortex added the Game Name at the end of the path, so I ended up with:

D:\Games\Vortex\Downloads\Fallout4

D:\Games\Vortex\Downloads\Fallounv

D:\Games\Vortex\Downloads\Fallout3

D:\Games\Vortex\Downloads\Skyrimse

What you DON'T want to do, is set up your download folder like this:

D:\Games\Vortex\Fallout4\Downloads

D:\Games\Vortex\Fallout4\Downloads\SKyrimSe\Downloads etc, (Somebody had theirs set up like that, also DO NOT do this either

D:\Games\Vortex\Fallout4\
D:\Games\Vortex\Fallout4\SkyrimSe\ etc

What version of Vortex are you on?

This does not seem like expected behaviour and sounds a bit like a bug that was fixed a while ago - provided you did not do anything funky with your FO4 / SSE setups.

I am using version 1.0.5 of Vortex.

Here are some screenshots of how my files are set up. If it looks odd it's probably due to having trouble with my initial setup that I needed help from online to get Fallout 4 to work. If needed, I am willing to delete and re-install all files, but doing that was part of the original problem. The final pic is the location of all of my Steam games and cannot be changed.

C:/Vortex/Downloads/skyrimse

Your MODS folder should be the same way

C:/Vortex/Mods/skyrimse

C:/Vortex/Mods/fallout4

etc.

It looks like you have all of your mods extracted to the ROOT of C:/Vortex/Mods/
