I'm near the epicenter of the 4.6 earthquake that just hit Maine.... shook my hole house for about 3 to 4 seconds very violently.

herd a low rumbling then a HUGE bang then the whole house started shaking and that was only a 4.6......

Now i'm freaked out....

Me we had one 2 years ago that was a 4.3 near Ottawa, we felt it here but it was only a 1.5. but it was if the ground and soil was moving though?? Strange sensation.

Thank goodness for very good Building codes here.

i was not expecting an earthquake to ever hit Maine.

Maine has lots of old buildings, i wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of damage to those buildings.

I'm in Virginia, we had a small earthquake last year. My cousin, aunt, sis and I were in Petsmart, and the whole building was just shaking, I have never, ever been in a quake before so I was just standing like a deer in the headlights.

Got an extra day of summer vacation, though :D

I know it's weird but I would love to experience a real one of those, i'm 29 and there's only been one barely noticeable over here (britain) in my lifetime. I thought my house was going to collapse when it happened but it was fun all the same

We don't have wooden houses here though so any kind of devastation would result in human vs tons of brick :psyduck:

There was an earthquake somewhere last year and some of my friends who live around me felt it. (I live in Missouri)

I didn't understand that. They said "Did you feel the earthquake last night!?"

"Uhh... What?"

"Yeah! Everything was vibrating!"

"Mhm... Didn't notice anything."

"Really!?"

"...Yeah?"

"I thought stuff was going to start falling apart!"

"Right."

This is seriously how several conversations went for the day. And they talked about it in the news, how it was in some other state but we could feel it in Kansas City and areas close to the east side of Missouri. Well friends who live farther west than me felt it. I felt like I missed out!

I agree with you I wanna feel a real earthquake (ahem... changed it before anything immature could be said). Dunno why it'd just be cool. xD

HA! I was in a 5.8 this year! mine is bigger than yours!

But seriously, it didn't do much damage. The waves were unbelievably powerful, but very slow, like waves in water. The thing that was scary though, was the noise. I've never heard anything like it, damn but it was loud. Really loud. Almost subsonic roaring noise, like a bloody jet engine but louder. If you've ever played the original Crysis game, the noise the "mountain" makes before and during it's wake up, are very similar.

I remember an earthquake that occurred in Germiston(RSA) in the 1980's. It happened in the early hours, woke everyone up and shook things for a few seconds. Later we found that a wall between the garage and the pool area had shifted apart about half a brick's width. My dad had intended putting in a door in that wall to facilitate easier access to the pool area, but after that he decided to just knock it down. Which we did, with hammers! As I was about 10 or 11 at the time, this seemed unbelievebly great. Sanctioned smashing with a hammer? Yes please :wallbash::thumbsup:

I have never been in an earthquake and I NEVER hope to be in one at all. I am deathly afraid of them, one of the reasons why I won't visit the West Coast. The whole idea of being thrown around does not appeal to me. But thank goodness you weren't injured. Few aren't that fortunate, and some, as we know, end up paying the steepest price.
