Deleted3507349User
Poor Irving: He gets jumped by two dragons at once (twice already), he confronts draugr scourges at level 4 (oh, and a death overlord), he had just ALL SORTS of fun trying to defeat Hevnorak with a few shouts and his fingernails....the latest goat-rope was at Arcwind at level 10 (last count: 1 dragon, 2 draugr scourge, 1 draugr overlord, 3 restless draugr, and 6 skeletons...all more-or-less at once). I may have missed a few in the running-around-shouting-and-screaming. Hey, at least he had a log trap to play with and a scroll of Dread Zombie. cyrus224
Some great ideas guys! I've played Oblivion and Fallout 3 as a pacifist, it was interesting. Here's one nobody ever seems to do. Pretend that you were playing skyrim one night during a freak lightning storm, and a bolt of lightning hit your computer just as you were creating a new character and now you're stuck inside the world of skyrim. and pretty much play the character being as brutally honest with what you'd actually do, be able to do, and how you'd actually fare in this situation. I have done similar things to this, but this idea is more fitting. What I usually do is play myself as if i was in this world, born into it. With fallout 3 and New Vegas I do all kinds of time travel and military experiments that bring the REAL me to their world, so I really like this idea. As for the war chief idea, thats awesome as well, I will also try that. Right now I'm a breton in dawnstar, came there by ship, had little before, had little now. I worked in the mines before i could afford to build a makeshift home west of the town where a troll used to live under a cliff overhang. (I used a camping mod to create a tent, fire, cooking spit, etc) I've tried to be as simple as possible and slowly be forced into conflict that I am not used to. I also cant really leave the area, as another mod has spawned 5-7 werewolves just outside of town, haha.
AnubisRaven
I plan on eventually doing this, but you may have already done it. Start the game with dragons enabled and an alternate start of your choice, but no other major changes besides some wildlife mods (Monster mod, SkyTEST, Prides of Skyrim, etc, etc, etc) of your choice. Other mods are fine to have, but those are what is necessary. A high sneak skill may a good idea. You are a biologist who has come to Skyrim to study and catalog the various animals of Skyrim. From Wolves to Dragons, your mission here is to simply observe their habits. You are allowed to kill animals if there is no other choice, but if you can get away without it, you must do that. Obviously, this wouldn't be that fun if all you did was watch a bunch of NPC animals run about (well, I actually find this fun, but it's not for everyone) so there's an element of exploration as well. Your job is to scout out all the dragon walls and groves and caves (those little tree markers on your map) where wildlife can be found. Explore all the different regions of Skyrim, from the icy coast filled with horkers and snow bears, to the plains of Whiterun, filled with Mammoths and saber cats. The Better Vampires mod allows you to do another interesting one. You are a vampire (The live another life mod lets you start as one) who has only one mission. Convert everyone you possibly can to vampirism. This means pacifying all bandits, guards, etc, and turning them with the "Praestare Sanguinare" power found in the mod. I can come up with more later, but that's what I have to start out with.

Explore all the different regions of Skyrim, from the icy coast filled with horkers and snow bears, to the plains of Whiterun, filled with Mammoths and saber cats. I actually just started an RP with a new character that is similar to this idea. I've based it on William Dampier, a pirate botanist from the 17th centuryhttp://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2012/01/18/145402318/the-pirate-botanist-returns Linnaeus Dampier is a Breton who has traveled nearly all of Tamriel. His father was a blacksmith but the trade never stuck for Linnaeus, instead he was drawn towards his mothers alchemical trade. When he was younger, summer spent with his uncle in the Jerall mountains is where he learned to hunt, track, and defend himself with a sword. As a young man he spent years signing onto merchant ships and trading caravans, this led him to Hammerfell, Valenwood, and Elsweyr. He fought for the empire during the great war, primarily as a scout, and lost his family in the process. Now, he has decided to start over in Skyrim. A new continent to explore, a new flora and fauna to explore. They also have a functional mage college, Linnaeus has picked up some tricks over the years from his adventures, and would love to ad some more to his repertoire. Somewhere crossing the border he got caught up in an ambush and taken prisoner... I'm not sure if I want this character to pursue the dragonborn role, I've gotten to the part where he is summoned by the Greybeards, but Linnaeus might just decide that is a bunch of nonsense. Still, a consummate and brilliant student, the knowledge he gleaned from that word wall is rather enticing. He above all is fascinated by the world and wants to understand it all, history, magic, alchemy, etc. I'm playing him as a fairly good character, he isn't a thief or assassin, but is also not at all afraid to deal with shady characters or get his hands dirty in pursuit of his studies. Mostly I buff with Alchemy and Alteration spells, loose a few arrows from stealth, close the gap and then unequip magic (to enable blocking) and duel with a one handed sword. It is actually proving to be a really fun play style. I've added a spell pack too, which includes some useful utility spells (slow time, etc.) that he'll be picking up at higher levels. Here is the build I'm thinking of.. http://skyrimcalculator.com/#209239
JanusForbeare
My RP isn't as developed as some posted here, but I usually become a sworn enemy of some group or other, and start collecting trophies from their bodies. My current character (mostly used for bugtesting, but that's no reason not to have fun with him) is an old-school Dunmer who despises necromancers and the undead. He doesn't loot funeral urns, and sells all the trappings of necromancy (raised dead scrolls, zombie staves, etc.) to Revyn Sadri in the Grey Quarter, who disposes of them. He also collects necromancer's robes from his vanquished foes, to keep count of his kills. He's also got an interesting skill set in the works (at least, I find it interesting), as he uses a combination of light armour, two handed weapons, and archery. He dishes it out damage like crazy, but doesn't stick around to take it in return. I also had a die-hard Imperial soldier (ages ago) who lived by the letter of the law. As such, he had zero tolerance for Talos worship, and collected amulets of Talos from the bodies of fallen Stormcloaks. He was up to 30 or 40 of them by the time I moved on to a new character. Triaxx2
I'll tell you, nothing is more fun than two-handed weapons an light armor.

For actual role-play, I find that being a hunter, roaming the wilds of Skyrim, entering no big city other than Whiterun is incredibly fun. The only reason I enter Whiterun is to sell my venison to the Vendor, and buy arrows from the Drunken Huntsman. Plus to warn the Jarl about the dragons. Not going to let some overgrown lizards eat all my deer. All my crafting is done 'in the wild' using smelters and other equipment not found inside the big cities. Portable Campsite is a life saver for not having to hunt down a smelter or anvil just to make some arrows, or a cook pot to cook up some venison.

Exploring of natural caves is okay, no ruins, no bandit dens. Mines are acceptable.

I'm currently doing an Orc who's a descendant of Gopher's Stiv, who is intent on finishing what his 'Clan-father' started in banishing Alduin, while also becoming an Orc Forge Master. IE, ascending both sides of the smithing tree. Can't take Dragon Smithing until I have both Daedric and Glass Smithing.

I agree it's fun to limit the characters from things to make the game more interesting. An Altmer wizard who disdains destruction for bound weapons. Or a Khajiit battle mage. Or, entertainingly, an Argonian who's afraid of water. (Not that he can be blamed, considering they removed underwater combat but left us with Slaughterfish.

Another fun character was an Orc by the name of Grovuz Org-vorgu, who fought only with a Mace and Shield. The only ranged attack he had was the first word of the Fire Breath shout. It was very challenging because until the dragon landed, he had to aim to hit them on the wing. It was awesome. Fought one in Winterhold until it crash landed outside of town, then had to race to reach it before it regenerated enough to resume flight. Only character that's never died on me.
Edited November 13, 2012 by Triaxx2
AnubisRaven
So, most of my saves got corrupted, so I'm starting up some new games. One that I'm really anxious to get up again was one that I had before, but I don't think I had mentioned. A Khajiit Dawnguard. His family was murdered by vampires, the Hall of the Vigilant, where he had trained and made friends has been burned by the vampires. He's looking for revenge, and it seems as if the perfect opportunity presents itself when an orc approaches him one day with an interesting offer... Did I mention he's a master of the battlestaff? (Weapons of the Third Era is an amazing mod) I started another one. Basically, a young student at the college who gets in waaaayyyy over her head when she joined the Dawnguard on a whim. Her very first mission, she ends up confronting possibly the most powerful vampire in Tamriel, and fear made her accept his offer. Of course, right now she's ecstatic with her newfound power, (She even turned a few of the mages at the college) but the guilt is beginning to set in... My actual Dragonborn character right now is an imperial man simply named Jon. He arrived to Skyrim from Elsweyr, with some clothes, a tiny bit of gold, and a sword his father, a smith and exiled knight, had crafted for him. He gets sucked into the whole dragonborn role quite by accident, after seeing a giant black dragon fly from the ruins of Helgen. If anyone else has some good RP ideas for me, I'm all ears. I need some more interesting characters.
cyrus224
One of the funnier characters i did was the decedent of a character from Oblivion. I don't know if anyone remembers Bugak Gro-Bol, an Orc book seller in leyawein at Southern Books. My friends and I always found him to be so hilarious, an Orc who just seemed out of place, and his quotes about how everyone says "Bugak the sissy scroll scribbler", and i couldn't help but laugh every time i heard an NPC say "Bugak Gro-Bol has some good books at southern books." So I played his decedent whose entire goal in skyrim was to hunt down and find a copy of every single book in existence.
belagaming8
Thanks to a lot of armour and weapons mods out there, along with tons of other ( like new places, immersion, races, everything) it really makes the RP experience of this game a lot better. Right now I am playing a female Nord called Victoria (using that quite new mod which makes all human races a lot more beautiful) who is an Cleric. Now my definition of Cleric in Skyrim is someone who uses Heavy Armour, One Handed weapons and of course Restoration magic. I gotta say it's tons of fun. Along with it, of course I level Alchemy and Enchanting, with some Smithing. The Restoration magic, let's be honest, is one of the least used from what I gathered, so playing like this is making it pretty fun and interesting. Combat is pretty fun, since you have only one weapon, and spells that heal you, your companion, or shield you from magic damage. I've done the "Mage's Guild" quests, and a lot of side quests. The main quest is somewhere after meeting the Greybeards, and I intend to leave it there. Her main purpose is to became one of the most powerful Clerics in Skyrim, so she can aid people in need. Also I've done the quest for Dawnbraker, and am using it, which goes along with her story. Now leveling only 3 main skills can seem a bit boring since you only have to swing your weapon and hold right mouse button to heal yourself, but trust me it's not only that, and it is fuuuuuun. She won't ever use, Alteration, Conjuration, Illusion, but she used a bit of Destruction, but not for long. My other character is your every day knight who came to Skyrim to seek rest from the battle and everything that is going on. He's married and lives with his wife ( I can't rememeber her name, the one with the Mill, to marry her you need to chop and bring her some firewood). They are quite happy. He keeps his old armour in the shack that used to belong to workers who worked at the mill before. That shack is locked, and so are all the memories from his old life. He travels to the closest city for supplies, either Riften, or Winterhold. He is a Redguard. He never done anything wrong, he never stole, or killed anyone who didn't deserve it, or so he thought. He still has nightmares of his old town, and one day he goes out to town to make a normal supply exchange. When he comes home his wife is missing. The key to the old shack is in his hands, and the old memories are pounding on the front door. From here I will leave it to you. Is his wife taken? Is she dead? Did she run away? Who did it? Necromancers? Imperials, Stormcloacks, beasts? I leave it to your imagination. I still haven't decide for my own character. There was once an Khajit, known for being the best hand to hand fighter in all of Tamriel. People would travel miles and miles to see his fights in the arenas. One day he was approached by a noble, who had a lot of gold on his loss. The only thing he needed to do was to give up. But his pride was stronger than that, and his fists never backed down. He fought like it was his last battle, and it was. After the fight, several guards tried to kill him. He ran, and ran as fast as he could, across the border, into Skyrim. Now, only in his clothes, cap, and some ragged shoes, with around 50 gold in his pocket, he must begin his new life. He is very tough (increased Health and Stamina) but he never practiced magic (Magicka below 20, and all his magic skills below 5). His Heavy Armour and Light Armour are increased (he uses Light Armour mostly, but in Heavy he has the perk to deal more damage when unarmed in Heavy Armour Gloves.) His One Handed skill is increased, since he used blades once, but not too long (around 45), but he doesn't Dual Wield, or use Two Handed or Block. He is a swift tounge and tends to get his way when speaking to others ( 60 or more in Speechcraft). But even with his rough life style, he never stole or broke in anywhere, which will have to change (Start with Lockpicking, Sneaking and Pickpocketing at 20, and use them.) He is not a good Enchanter or Alchemist, but he has some Smithing knowledge. Also he preffers to use his hands instead of a weapon, and he avoids fighting at all costs. He was never a good archer, and he never will be (Archery skill 5) All in all, story a bit used, that he has to climb from the bottom, but he doesn't really want to be on the top. He just wants to have enough to live a quiet life, away from the glamour of the city arenas. Once upon a time (no it's not a fairy tale) there was an Orc. He was an ordinary Orc, but he was a dumb Orc as well. He was a skilled fighter, but that's all he was. He used Two Handed weapons and Heavy Armour, and was a good smith. But his Speech was very limited and he would talk to others through grunts, and grins. One day in the battlefield he found a woman. She was (Breton, Nord, Imperial, Redguard your choice). She was alone, and frightened, not ready to fight. For the first time in his life, he felt some kind of emotion, and decided to spare her. In return she decided that she will spend as much time with him as needed for him to became more aware of the world, and to expand his intelect. He will become much calmer, and smarter person the before. You pick it up from there. TL;DR = Cleric Nord with Restoration, Heavy Armour and Onehanded. Redguard Knight, who gave up fightning only, to be brought back in when his wife went missing. Khajit who is a great Hand to Hand figher, but is forced to abandon his life and start all over. Dumb Orc becomes smart Orc. Take care.
Deleted3507349User
I'm getting ready to start a dark elf in Winterhold. I'm going to console all his skills down to level 1 so he has to grow everything naturally. No standing stones (except possibly The Steed) and no perk points. He will be able to increase his health/magicka/stamina though.
