When Freedom Calls will not start.

When Freedom Calls will not start in pip-boy but the dialog moves along as it should but Priston then is stuck on the balcony. This is the second time it has happened. Last time Momma Murphy did not even show up. Does anyone now how get it to start in the pip-boy. Setstage does not seem to work. Completequest works but they are still in the museum. If anyone has heard of a mode that gives this quest a problem let me know. This is not real playthrough I'm just testing out mods at the present to set up my next playthrough.

Beware that I have been just testing for a playthrough. I wanted to find out how many bugs and plot holes and fix. What I can and cannot convert to esl and merge and work. Right now I have hardly left the sanctuary area. The count is a little less than 600 plugins, 244 esp & esm and 310 esl (with 65 not confirmed to be actually working). The setup is create a world that is close to medieval as possible more melee. bows little ammo and few guns.

how many record entries does all 310 of them esl files contain between them ?

 

open every single 1 of them in Fo4Edit, and then click on File header for each 1, and report back here with the total amount of Record entries they all have (the file header will have an entry that says how many record entries the current ESL file contains).

 

your issue is very likely connected to the fact that you have an excessive amount of mods, which means you will no doubt have a lot of mod conflicts, as well as an invalid load order.

 

ESL files have a total Limit of 4096 Record Entries Split between them, which means you have no doubt exceeded the Record Entry Limit of All ESL files. which is why them 65 ESL files are not working.

 

Open Every Single mod in Fo4Edit, and check for Mod Conflicts, that means you will need to manually check all 600 mods for Red Background/Red text.

 

Note: if you require a tutorial in how to use xEdit let me know and i will happily write you 1

 

after checking all 600, report back here with any and all mods that Have Red Background/Red Text, i will then explain how to resolve these issues and likewise know what mod(s) is causing the issue at hand.

 

Also i Strongly Suggest Against Merging mods. that will cause issues on its own period. only those that completely understand modding, and have a lot of experience modding bethesda games may even attempt this and even then they will run to issues, because you are bypassing a hard limit, which means you are stepping into a mine field of issues, especially with any amount of mods beyond 255. the game engine does not support extreme amount of mods, this engine is the same engine that is used for all of Bethesda Games, and is only slightly upgraded for each newer game, as such this engine is really old and fragile and has very clear limitations.

 

to use an excessive amount of mods, or to merge mods, you must fully understand modding, and must fully understand how mods interact with each other, the load order, the save games, the game engine itself, the papyrus scripting system, and most important of all you must completely understand the Limitations this game has and understand basic modding rules such as never removing or adding mods in an active playthrough. (saying this part as general advice, not entirely aimed at you, but it is very relevant here, when i see 600 mods with talks of merging, to increase the mod count even higher, this shows lack of experience and knowledge on this very paragraph).

 

ESL Files are completely made to allow mod users to use Creation Club Content on a maxed out Game, that is their sole purpose. the Creation Club will never have the shear amount of content that already exists in ESP and ESM form, so these files were never intended to be used in excessive, they were meant to be only a few additional mods on top of maxed out game (254 ESP or ESM Files)

 

Hence the Very Limited 4096 Record Entries.

 

Note: while you may just be testing, all of my post is still relevant, its not ideal to test in extreme situations because you will not get the result you are hoping for, and i do not know if you are actually intending on using so many mods, as such all of my post is completely relevant.

To put this in a different light.

You work as a personal assistant for your boss. Your boss walks in with 30 carts worth of 600 boxes of paperwork, and sets all of those boxes on, in, and around your desk. "Have all of this done in 10 minutes".

You've got 600 boulders, all of various sizes and shapes, sitting on the edge of ledge. Right now, you've got a few of the smaller ones that slip loose and come rolling down the side of the mountain. Eventually, something big is gonna slip loose and the entire thing is gonna come down in an avalanche.

 

There is a mod limit for a reason. Because this game engine is old. It's creaky. It breaks easy, and it's patched together with shoestrings, bubblegum, and spray paint. The mod limit is there, to TRY to keep us from breaking it. HELL.... Sony has a 150 mod limit on the PS4 version, and it breaks if you give it dirty looks! (That's an overstatement, but NOT by MUCH.)

 

I'm all about mods. I'm all about trying out and playing with as many mods as you can. Don't get me wrong on that. Back in the old morrowind days, I broke that game more times that I have fingers. But 600 is EXCESSIVE.

That's not a play test, it's a stress test. And Cap'n she canna take the strain!

This is the tip of the iceberg. You're already getting script failure, that's gonna snowball, and just get worse the more you play this game, and the more scripts that fail to run properly. Hence my reference to an avalanche.

 

Honestly, congratulations, that you found a way to slip that many mods past the limit. That's actually kind of amazing. But expecting it to work under those conditions? Really?

Like I said before this is an experment.

1. I wanted to find out what could be converted to esl and still work. I found a few that converts with no errors but does not work. For instrance the Jal.esp the ladder for the workshop. It could be created in the workshop but you could not climb it.

2. I wanted to tinker around with merges to better understand how they work and the best way to used them. Although I read that some merge weapons and armors, I stayed with just the mods with just esp files.

3. Create a world where it was more or less a medival world with little ammo and guns.

4. Create a lot of set dressings to usae as back drop for the possibly a recorded playthrough story telling.

 

Although I am stress testing but my real goal is to load everything I think will be needed and interesting for the story and it's telling.

 

That's why better Location damage and better combat AI are some of the mods I want in it.

Also more detail and expanded DC people and dialog.

 

Will I get there? Who knows.

 

But one thing I learned from my reading is that to much tinkering the mods when play the game causes problems. So I want get all the possible mods and if I don't have hard crash, which has not happened yet. Then review start removing unneeded mods which are between a 10 to 50 and working on fixing as many conflicts as possible.

 

Is 600 excessive maybe. But consider this the whirlybirds could be shot down by a sling shot almost. The power armor is almost as bad and you can find one on every block. There is plot wholes like the brotherhood and when they arrive. DC is really underwhelming. Then have all the bugs and glitches that need fixes.

 

When I retired I bought a Alienware laptop 64-bit Intel i7-7700hq core and I maxed out ram to 32 GB.

 

I have been do this experiment the last three months more or less. There only about 20 more mods I think maybe useful.

 

Now back to original question that G4M3W1NN3R asked the number of records under HEDR Header is tricky because CC also flagged as esm & esl, some esp are flagged esl. The CC record count is 1716. The esl record count is 29251. According the creation kit web reference it is 4000 esl files. And from the general discussion around the web when you exceed that you hard crash. Will it interfere with scrips? Good chance.

 

But is that the issue with why the quest When Freedom Calls is not starting. The descriptions I read range from heavily moded to no mods at all. They all agree on one thing the counsel will not work in starting it or in progressing it. Like I said earlier I am not exploring much except around sanctuary to test mods. When I go out further I usually go in god mode. The reason I discovered this was I was checking the mode, no free armor from Museum. I have not checked by turning off all the mods yet, because I'm still testing other mods.

 

Oh! The 65 esl I mentioned was just had not been confirmed as working. Yesterday brought it down to 55.

 

To let you know I exceeded the esp limit by almost 10 but not on purpose. It turns out that sometimes it lets you open the game and play but it does not load all the plugins at the end. It will eventually CTD with interesting results when you back to your save, half the your construction disappears and you have no clothes. It took me little time to figure what happened. Loot showed that the last few esp did not load and ReSaver showed me that there was only 4 esm & esp and 300 esl in my save. I had also forgotten about 0 counting as 1 in programing so the count will show 254 not 255. And if you think I should have more problems the last three months, I did. I would state CTD when I saved. When that happened I would go to just an earlier save or to the vault save. This last time I started all over because some one on line said they solved the problem by starting a new game.

 

Actually StormWolf01 I'm looking forward to see how long it does last, if I ever get all the mods loaded and checked and conflicts resolved. Once that happens no more experimenting, just playing.

Update (if your interested)

 

Found the the problem, sort of. I still don't know which mod or mods that is caused the problem. After a couple of days testing, I started a fresh game with min mods, When Freedom Calls started in the pip-boy and progressed to Sanctuary normally.

 

One issue I thought was a bug was just was an issue with Knockout Framework I think. Preston was not in the hall way with everyone else when you need to talk to Preston when all the raiders are dead. I could not find him anywhere but I realized my Pip-Boy had not activated tracking the quest when I turned it on the flag showed up on the floor where he normally stands. He was laying on top of the generators unconscious and I could not reach him. Waiting a couple of hours he showed up or should say crawled up.

 

Oh! by the way going to min mods just before you the start of the quest will do nothing you have to start a fresh game. I membered there was discussion once about having mods on when you start a playthrough, but I could not find the discussion online.

Heya Silver- Well, I'm glad to hear that its working out for ya. Tho, I'm really not happy to hear that a mod is creating that kind of problem with essential characters. But yeah, I can see how what you describe could cause the problem that you had. The tampering with Preston was what resulted in him not being at the activation point, or something. It may have been his condition, in that from the sounds of it, the mod was preventing him from recovering right away.

So all that aside, HAH, I'd have loved to see Preston in that kind of condition. (I personally can't stand him, or almost any of the others from his crew).

 

As for starting the games with mods active, it is really highly NOT recommended to do so. I've had my fair share of mods cause problems either directly there in the house, or causing the elevator not to descend, to making that guy who leads you to the cryopod not going to it, to making the escape elevator not work, or making the door not unlock.

 

For something as (IMO) stupid as it is, the house and the vault has a lot of activators and triggers that can get botched up by mods.

Doesn't change the fact that you overmodded your game by a long stretch. Do you really need all that stuff? I didn't read through your list, but noticed it took up almost a whole page.That's far too many for a stable game. Frankly, I'm surprised, you're able to play at all.

I did not state it but I reactived all my mods aftrer I left the vault.

 

I remember reading something about the vault causing problems a year or so ago but I could not find it. This is the first time I am pushing the limit as how far I can take it.

 

I find some that are not as useful as described or not working properly. As said earlier I'm trying to fix as many bugs and plot holes I can. As I go through the test I will probably find more conflicts and problems so far I haven't gone beyond Concord except to test a mod quickly and then go back to a previous save. But I will eventually have to start a new game because to much tinkering will cause problems as well.

 

AS for Preston someone should make a mod so we can put him in cryo pod only bring him out when you need something.

 

As for stable, it got more stable yesterday because I finally found the problem that kept freezing my game the Read notes on containers and corpuses would freeze the game randomly when using a quick loot window.

 

And the fps issues, who knows, I can start at 7 and a little later is says 200 too 300+ at times.

 

I wonder should I post a log or something on this little experiment?
