Vortex Cant Find My Staging Folder

Hello, My first Post here.

I'm trying to re install my skyrim mods after a drive format. I have the mods folder out away from the game directory but vortex still cannot recognize it. It gives me the option to 're-initialize' but when I do that I get the error failed to move directories and my mods folder disappears.

My file path is D: Mods

The Picture is showing that the mods folder is still under the game directory eventhough I moved it, So that isn't very accurate sorry.

I'm not mod savvy, what can I do ?

Is your D:\Mods folder empty?

If so, delete it, then do the reinitialize in Vortex.

This is why it's bad to move things around etc without Vortex knowing it.

Also, Never Ever put your MOD STAGING FOLDER INSIDE your Game Folder.

Yeah I moved it out from the game folder but the errors still tell me that it is in the game folder like in the picture attachment.

So I should make the new mods folder from the file explorer within vortex?

Did you move it out of the game folder by using File Explorer, or by moving it with Vortex?

If you moved it with File Explorer, than that's why you're having the problem you're having because Vortex doesn't know you moved it.

Put an empty MOD folder back in your game directory, let Vortex find it, then complain to you that you shouldn't have the MOD folder in there, then use Vortex to move it like so...

Click on the FOLDER at the end of the box that has the path to the folder, and navigate to the new one you have at D:\Mods (if you were able to trick Vortex into believing your MODS folder is back in your Game folder

Still getting the same error, I moved the mods folder back under the game folder, let vortex do its thing, then moved it back out. Do I need to Have a folder for Skyrim SE withing the mods folder?

Vortex isn't picky.

The problem is that YOU moved a folder without Vortex knowing it, so it's still trying to find it where it used to be.

How did you move the folder back out?

By using Vortex or moving it using File Explorer?

Your MOD Staging Folder should automatically do this

D:\Mods\skyrimse

D:\Mods\oblivion

D:\Mods\fallout4

D:\Mods\falloutnv

Yes I moved it back out with vortex. The only time it was ever in my game directory was when I was just trying to get my mods back before I formatted my drive. I don't even remember how I had it set up before, but it worked. It's been so long since I played I don't know where my mods folder was. All I know is it was somewhere on my game drive.

So all this about using vortex to move files and not moving files or else it will screw up and staging folders is totally new to me. I'm just finding out about it today.

Moving Files outside of ANY program will make the program, when started not be able to find the files.

That's not exclusive to vortex.

If you moved your SkyrimSE directory to a different drive using File Explorer, then when you click on the Game in the Steam Client, or from the Start Menu, both Steam and Windows will have no idea where the game is, and will look for it where it used to be.

This is what you did with Vortex.

You're going to have to start over because Vortex is trying to find the Folder that you moved, because it doesn't know you moved it, so it's going to keep looking where it last knew where it was.

My instructions were for you to make a MODS folder, where it shows in that Error Message

Then open Vortex, and when it finds the Folder.

Use the MOD Staging setup screen (the screenshot I posted) to MOVE the Folder using Vortex.

What you did, was put the MODS where it belonged, let Vortex find it.

Then once again, you used File Explorer, instead of Vortex to move the Folder.
