I just got this about 3 days ago so i was playing it and beat the game. Dont worry no spoilers here. Anyway, the game was great up untill it ended. I was hoping it would be never ending like Oblivion becasue like in Oblivion you could get a house and I infered that since you get a house here and you can upgrade it that this game was like Oblivion and never ends. But i was proven wrong I was hoping greatly that I got to go on playing and trying to survive in the Wasteland. Anyway I'm just wondering if anyone else here was disapointed by this. Besides the fact that it ends it was a great game.

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed myself.

I started a new game, and just ignored the story quests. You can play for days and days without ever touching a single one of them once you leave the vault.

Lots of other great quests and content in the game....who needs to go chasing after daddy??? lol.

Hi Tuxedoman, Didn't have a chance to grab a copy yet, living on a minor Brazilian city doesn't help getting things early, but...

I read Fallout is open ended in the way Oblivion is. That is to say, if you follow straight the main quest line the game eventually comes to an end, but this doesn't implies final scenes, credits, thanks and game over... you just get free to wander cyrodiil at leisure with your character, keeping everything, since status, level and gears.

Isn't so with fallout 3? If it is close ended just will put another drop of cold toward acquiring it, after not having (at least yet, a CS). Mainly because, as you noted, the main quest line is shorter yet than the Oblivion one.

Edit: remembering games here on Brazil, on fresh release, tends to cost half a monthly wage of most working people :/

After I finally got around to beating the game after 4 days of gameplay, I noticed the storyline is actually very short.

Honestly, the main storyline can be ignored completely.

It's crap, really. It tries to be emotional, it tries to be 'wowwing', but falls so short.

After you get power armour training, you can just ignore it and move on to greener, or in this case less irradiated, pastures.

You can't keep playing after you finish it.

Which kind of makes sense, because of what you do in the ending.

Then again, it's not like I found the story in Fallout 2 to be great either.

Even back when I was 12 when I first played it, I thought it was 'meh' at best.

But that's not why I played and loved the game anyway.

Fallout is one of those few games where the main quest doesn't really matter in the face of the game itself.

Kind of like Oblivion, when I think about it.

There has been alot of talk about the ending. Overall the response to the ending has varied from "OMGWTFBBQ!!!" to "meh."

Bottom line...aside from whatever difficulties you may encounter in combat, you can walk through the main quest in about an hour or so (supposed record is 75 mins). However, it's equally possible to completely ignore the main quest & play on for quite a long time. So really...the game is what you make of it.

Personally, I found the ending unnecessarily...umm...final. :whistling:

I'm hoping that either the construction kit comes out soonish....or there is an expansion that alters the ending just enough to allow you keep going.

I was disappointed as well in the ending.

Why was it necessary to die?

Perhaps Beth has a plan to explain it in an expansion?I don't

get it but i'm still playing.New character

that doesn't care if there is fresh(or poisoned) water or not lol.

I'm spending a lot of time just wandering around. All the little diorama like situations are fun to find.I don't want spoil it for anyone but i found a lot situations that showed what people were doing at the time of the bombs that ranged from sad to pretty funny.

Looking forward to what Modders are going to do with this game.

I would have been ok with the end being final had they given you more detailed feedback instead of that sorry excuse for a closing video sequence that tells you little more than if you were good or evil and if you saved or screwed the world. The endings of the previous Fallout games were also very final. After the closing videos in 1 and 2 that detail your exploits and their outcome I felt fairly satisfied. They made it seem like I had accomplished things. The only feeling I had at the end of 3 was ".... that's all I get...?". I wanted to see something more along the lines of "Because of your actions the city of ______ flourishes, acting as a base for the reclamation and reconstruction of the DC ruins". Things like that with many permutations for good evil and otherwise.

I will say it's better than FO1 though, I had to restart twice because I kept screwing around to long and I'd hit that 150 day automatic game over. Better I decide when the game ends, not the other way around.
