Indio21
Hello, I am trying to set up vortex to be used by multiple pc users. I am the only user that is attempting to learn modding therefore I thought the shared setting of the multi-users would be needed. Skyrim SE is the game we are playing and on a windows 10 OS. I did read the posting rules but did not include the pc hardware info figuring it was not a factor for this question. By all I read I thought once I set the settings for vortex on my account they would show the same settings when the other user logged in, but it shows the default to use the per user setting for multi-users. If I try to set it to shared on their account vortex wants to restart then goes into a perpetual file permission setting window. I am unable to get it out of this window without closing vortex through the task manager. At first I downloaded and enabled all the mods we wanted but logging into the other account vortex would only show the plugins and says the masters are missing. Deploying/ purging just locks it back into the file permissions window. The skyrim SE game is running through steam but we each own our own copy of the game. From what we read on steam each user has to own their own copy. Other topics I have read in the forums here only address setting up vortex for multiple users of a pc with the per user setting in multi-users. My understanding of what I have read leads me to believe we can share from the same mods folder and just enable the mods we want on our nexus profile/s. Is my understanding correct and how do I need to configure the settings? Thank you for your time! I found a topic on the same issue that was never answered here https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7479731-shared-mode-not-working/?hl=%2Bshared+%2Bmode
HadToRegister
Per User settings are exactly what Shared User means. It doesn't mean that one person sets everything up, and the settings are shared across all users, it just means that EVERYBODY can use Vortex. It means that everybody on the computer can access Vortex, and can have mods, and settings DIFFERENT than you. Indio21
Thank you for the quick reply. Below is the quoted info on the multi-user mode. It leads me to believe that we should be able to log into vortex and it will pull the mods from the same folder for both of us. I think I'd be able to just enable the mods we want on each of our vortex profiles. "By default, every user account on your system has its own "instance" of Vortex with their own settings, mods, profiles and so on.If you want to share these things between all users of your PC, you can toggle to "Shared" mode. In this mode all data will be stored in a global location and available to all users on this system. Please note that this includes login credentials for Nexus Mods and other, potentially confidential, pieces of information you enter in Vortex. This switch is not destructive. Th data stored with your user account is not touched while you're in shared mode, so you can toggle back and forth." Originally I had each of us having per user settings but I have to download every mod we both use and it eats up HD space. We only have a few mods that are different between us. HadToRegister
Hmmm, ok, then what it looks like is, with Per User settings, is YOU have your own settings, and when you switch to Shared Settings, you have to set up a SHARED "everything" for it to be shared, like basically copying your Per User settingBecause the description sounds like you have your own settings, that are only ever touched by you, whether you use Per-User, or Shared., so those settings are exclusive to you.I think (I could be wrong), that what you need to do is make a new profile while Vortex is set to "Shared" and set it up the way you want, with the Mods etc, and then other people should be able to use that profile, or clone it under their name, and set the profile to manage their Savegames and SettingsAlso, remember to turn on Profile Management in SETTINGS------>INTERFACE--->Enable Profile ManagementI have to say, I'm a bit fuzzy in this area
Indio21
How do I clone a profile? I believe I read on that else where and they were copying the main users load order and plugins text files plus any .ini files to the other users folders after they got all the mods installed and ordered. After the amount of research thus conducted I am not sure I'd even be able to guess were I read that and did not commit more to memory as I thought it unrelated. The author was using MO and was an old post. When I initially set up vortex, got all mods activated, and then ordered the other user account could log in and open vortex. It would recognize all the plugins and show them in the plugins tab, but the mods did not show any loaded in it's tab. Vortex would just say the master could not be found. With half it showing/ recognizing, and profile management off for both accounts, I assumed it was just a setting.

Indio21
I found the drop down to clone a profile. First I downloaded, installed, and enabled a mod with a plugin. Then I activated profile management and cloned the default after I set its settings (saved games and settings). When logged in as the other user vortex requires a game to be managed to be chosen. When it is chosen vortex then wants to purge and goes into the perpetual file permissions window for every file in the game I believe. My thought process is if all the mods download to a shared folder they would appear in both users account when vortex is opened. So if we hypothetically have a total of 50 mods downloaded it shows in both our accounts when vortex is opened. If we both use 45 of the mods and I use 48 of the 50 mods I just disable the 2 I do not use. My load order stays with my user account. When the alternate user is logged in and opens vortex the two mods I do not use are enabled on their vortex. The plugin and load order list are saved in their user files. If the alternate user's vortex would recognize the masters, of the plugins it loads, I believe it would work like I described above......possibly? Sounds good to me, and actually I thank you for experimenting with this so that we can all find out for once and for all how this works on a shared systemYou're a Pioneer! Indio21
After the days learning about mods, mod file extensions, load orders, about mod managers, and now the last day or so on trying to configuring this I definitely feel like a pioneer, lol! But yes, from all my research done online, and most confusing that people are trying to play two players at the same time on a single player game than accomplish this, I thought it was good topic to post. It is why I linked the other topic to this one an vice versa in case there are symptoms, etc I did not mentioned covered in the other. Hopefully it helps
