twiget328
I'm building my dream house in Hangmans Alley. It's 3 stories tall and is going to require a s*** ton of light fixtures. Is there an easy way to precisely place the light fixtures on the center of the floor tiles? Right now the lights are all over the place. I'm on PC, so console commands are available, or if there's a mod to help with this, that would be great.
HeyYou
Have a look at this mod. :)
StormWolf01
Heyas Twiget!Placing lights is a pain in the tail! It's next to impossible to place them correctly aligned, without any kind of snap mods. Or outside of the CK which should have snap features.I checked in the downloads section and I did not see any mods that includes snap lighting. However, there are snap walls. You could drop some of those down, as guides, place your lights at the end of the walls on the floor, and then remove the walls.I'll go ahead and add to why HeyYou recommends place anywhere. PW allows you to make small, minor changes to placed objects by scooting them along the XYZ settings thru your keyboard. In other words you can move an object left/right from your keyboard. Front/back thru your keyboard, or up/down from the keyboard ;)
twiget328
Have a look at this mod. Thanks for the suggestion HeyYou. I've been using Place Anywhere, and it's the only reason I've gotten as far as I have. Heyas Twiget!Placing lights is a pain in the tail! I'll have to go through the mod notes more carefully next time. You've also given me an idea of how to place the lights. I'm going to try snapping some half floor pieces to the underside of the floor tiles, then snapping the lights to the half floor tiles. If worse comes to worse, I'll put together a LUA script for my G13 to get the XYZ coordinates for each floor tile. Then I'll dump it all into Excel and do some trig.

I'm using parts from Homemaker. which conveniently has the part origin in the center of the parts. Using getpos x, getpos y, & getangle z, I'm able to find the center of the floor tiles so I can place and align the lights with no issues. It took a while to get the power conduit ran and place all the lights, but it's done. I haven't counted how many lights there are (probably over 100), but my RTX2080Ti seems to be handling the load just fine.
StormWolf01
Hey again! Nice! Good to hear that you've got a working solution :) WIthout having to resort to advance mathematics LOL! ;DI have the homemaker mod downloaded, but since I don't do much with settlements anymore, I hadn't done a whole lot of looking at it. But knowing that you've used it for this, helps me as well, if I get back into settlement building. :DI do know that some people have had problems with getting NPCs to navigate to 3rd floor buildings in the vanilla game. If you do, you may need to check out a mod like this https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/37579 which increases the NPC sandbox in buildings.Again, I haven't done a lot of work with that particular mod, so I'm not sure how well it would play with mods that increase or decrease companion sandboxing (how far they roam from the player.) But glad to hear you've got a working solution! And thanks for posting how you worked it out :)
HeyYou
Wonder if it would be possible to have the game actually display the position/rotation of your selected object..... That would make precise placement of things like lights much easier.....
StormWolf01
I would absolutely love something like that. Especially if it gave the cell information too.Imagine it, being able to get coordinates and cell information so that you could manually enter that into Xedit, instead of having to drop an object or npc directly into a cell in the CK*starts to drool at the prospect*
