[LE] Actors placed in render window don't show up in the game

Recommended Posts

Ok so a newbie here. Here's the thing, and I must say it's weird to me.

I made a dead deer, ran havok sim and placed it somewhere in the wilderness north east of Whiterun by the river. The deer loads up in CK just fine but in game he's not there, like I never placed him there, Using console to move to him shows error like no such actor exists.

But here's an interesting thing, if I place the deer in the middle of Whiterun for example or anywhere in Whiterun or rather in any cell that actually has a name other than wilderness he shows up just fine, so I know that the actor works fine by itself.

My question is why Can't I place creatures in wilderness but I can in cities, dungeons or interiors? I feel like I am missing something obvious here like idk I must mark the coords or something to make it work.

My second question is can anyone give me some idea to what can be potential reasons that creatures placed in the wilderness cell (any wilderness cell) won't show in game?

The questions might be a bit nooby but then again I am still learning somewhat.

I'm not sure what's going on here. I've put all manner of things into Skyrim and they always render.

Just to be certain, I've just duplicated 'encDeer' and placed two into Skyrim, both 'starts dead' and dropped with havok. I put one in a named cell, 'AnisesCabinExterior01'. The other I put into one of the neighbouring wilderness cells. I only duplicated the deer form so that I could name the animals as 'Test Deer'.

Both showed up in game, because when I found them I could 'Loot Test Deer', instead of 'Loot Deer'. I also used player.moveto 1d0022f7 and PLayer.moveto 1d0022f8 to teleport between the two dead deer and it worked. I assume this was the command you used. the ID you type in is the one that you get by clicking on the deer in-game with the console open. It's not the base ID and not the ID you get when using the console and typing Help "my actor name"

You haven't accidentally marked the deer as 'Initially Disabled', have you? The other issue may be if the deer has got itself partly under the terrain in CK. When the cell loads, the game will drop it through the terrain. I've sometimes had this issue with items dropped by havok in interior cells. They look OK in CK but don't show up in game To be sure that isn't the case, lift it a bit off the ground in CK.

The only thing i checked was Starts Dead, Initially disabled was left empty, I do have plans to use script like GetStage(10) Self.enable() but my primary concern it to make it show up at all, Lifting it above ground somewhat is a good idea, i haven't tried that yet, will try when i get home,

However lifting above ground is not needed in named cells, like i had no issue placing it in the markeplace of Whiterun. Anyways thanks for the input.

I get that. I'm just saying that it works for me whether the cell is named or not, that includes wilderness cells.

My point is that this is not an issue with wiilderness cells, so you should forget that. The issue is about the instance of the reference that you have placed in the wilderness cell. It could be to do with its placement as I said before, or it could be something else, say your testing regime or something else that is in that cell that is interfering with your placed dead actor.

You need to check these things logically.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm simply trying to get to the problem logically.

I've 100% ruled out that it's anything to do with 'wilderness cells' so let's move on from that.

If you won't, I'm opting out of offering any further advice.

Edit: No, that did sound a bit rude, or at least abrupt. Sorry about that.

Here's the thing, I tried several times today, including the lifting thing and it didn't work. Moveto command can't be used as i can't click on the deer in game because the deer is not there to be found, the location is the grass area north of Battle born farm.

You say that wilderness cells work fine, ok I can accept that, then the issue is on my end, however I can't figure it out because placing does work in towns dungeons, interiors as I said.

That location has nothing interesting going on except some grass and river. Is the process of placing actors in the wilderness cells any different than placing them in named cells? Because I've been using the same method - just click - hold and drag to render window

I ran into the same problem just now and did a bit of research myself.. i didnt see a clear cut answer but through bits an pieces i came to realize that you have to find the cell/location you want under "Tamerial" in the exterior section. I orignally tried going to the "throat of the world"(tallest mountain in skyrim) by opening whiterun wilderness and then scrolling to the location.. and it wouldnt show. I then went back into the exterior section after reading a bit, clicked on "Tamerial", then scrolled down til i came across the "throat of the world" cells 1,2, and 3..voilá!! my custom npc appeared. Just a thought. Does the spot where you placed the deer have a navmesh under it? There are spots in both interiors and exteriors like where rubble is where there is no navmesh. NPCs sometimes do weird things with no navmesh and it doesn't matter if they start dead or not. I've had placed actors show in the CK but not in game because of that.
