Main Quest Broken: Delphine's Attic room

just to say and because it's not your first, do you take and read the note which is the "trigger", it happend sometimes when you know everything you missed the essential thing :P

First of all, I'll say my problem is a bit different than what started this coversation in the first place.

 

My problem is that I actually have the option to rent the attic room, in which she charges me for, but every time I rent the room, she never followed me into the attic room to further initiate the quest.

 

My solution was this, rent the regular room and pay her. Talk to her again and tell her you wanted the attic room intead.

 

At this point sleep in the "regular" room for a few hours and Delphine will wake you up and tell you to follow her. She will then lead you to the attic room and the main quest is able to continue.

 

I hope this helps anyone encountering a similar glitch.

I feel you bro, It is definitely a mod we are using, so far I saw that me and you have the armor compilation and improved shouts. None seems to be the 'cause... I would be pleased if we could manage mission scripts and force actions on actors but I guess we'll have to pray to mighty Talos to give us strength to deal with such petty but troublesome misadventure.

Hello guys! I believe it might be towards the crime area. One time I got this quest and it was bugged and I found out later it was because I had an assault charge very far away in another town. It worked after that. I feel this happened again and I am stuck where I get no options for renting a room at the inn. :\

I had a problem like the one Deejus described:

I was able to work around it by:

• Restore from a save immediately before speaking to Delphine
• Go outside and kill the vampires coincidentally attaching Riverwood
• Go back in and speak to Delphine.

Note that just exiting and re-entering the inn didn't help. Killing the vampires, or something else that happened while I was killing the vampires, made a difference.

I noticed that she wasn't walking around as usual while I was experiencing the bug. She was always stuck on a single spot on the floor, a few feet in front of her husband's counter and the alchemy table. Even if I repeatedly attacked her, many guards would enter and attack, but she would never move from that spot.

When I left the inn and immediately re-entered, she still seemed stuck, and still wouldn't follow me to the room.

But after fighting the vamps outside, then coming back in, I noticed that she was walking around the inn again. Talking to her then worked.

So, I think the root cause for not moving forward with the quest is that she can't move around, so she can't follow you. I don't know what's causing her to get stuck. If I had to work around it again, I would avoid asking her about the attic room until she's moving around freely. If she seems stuck, go kill things for a while and come back.

Hey, I know this is an old topic but in case anyone is still having trouble with this, I have a solution. Setstage MQ105Ustengrave 20
Then, you also need to setstage MQ106 5
I think it has something to do with that the request to rent the attic is more directly linked to the Quest "A blade in the dark."
I hope this helps anyone who needs this.

I am having the exact same problem as the first post. I have tried to verify the integrity of the game cache and there lies a problem I am thinking is maybe connected to it.
I try to verify and it says "Unable to validate one file. Will reacquire." Except, it does not reacquire this file, whatever it is. I know it's 752 bytes, but that's all I know. I tried talking to Bethesda and they actually told me to verify the integrity of the game cache. After I did it again, just for their enjoyment and I told them it didn't work, they gave me a link to a forum because they had no idea what to do.

 

Another thing I noticed is, even after I delete some of the saved games, they seem to appear again. Someone please tell me.. something good?

If not, can I just uninstall steam and skyrim and all data files and install a new skyrim? I have two, one from the collectors series I never did anything with.

I had this same issue and I just figured out how to fix it! (At least for me)

Go to a save before any console commands and then just fast travel to Whiterun. From inside Whiterun walk all the way to Riverwood (or use a horse - that's what I did)

Once you enter the inn Delphine should be walking around again. Then you can get the room and just go to it and close the door and wait a bit (no need to sleep).

Even if in your save you already got the attic room that's okay. I already had the attic room and had saved before I realized there was a problem.

Anyways, hope this helps!

(P.S. I only thought of this since there is an issue like this in the Companions storyline and this is basically how you fix it - by not fast traveling :p )

I solved by renting a room, sleeping in the bed for 24 hours and then when i woke, delphine was saying"So you are the dragonborn"... (sorry for my english)
