Badmagic
Just wanted to ask, its been a year now, looked for this but still not finding much, being dragonborn on every character ruins the game for me, and no I'm not exaggerating ruin is the word, I prefer RPG's where I choose my role and persona, not being told in advance the role I have to play. The main quest also interfering with the likes of entering whiterun or joining in the civil war is also an unavoidable annoyance that I have never seen a clean solution for. Now the games finally getting some true RP options from mods such as 'The Choice is Yours' while frankly needed they also draw even more attention to the enforced dragonborn situation. Has anyone seen a clean way to just remove the main quest and all the junk that goes with it yet? I had hoped something like the 'live another life' mod would finally be expanded to include such an option but it looks to be content with re-directing you to still be a dragonborn regardless of starting choices. beewyka819
I'd just use "Alternate Start - Live Another Life" and pick a scenario (that wont have me end up in Helgen) And the quest will be to live your life, if you hear someone mention helgen/civil war that quest will complete and ask you to follow up on rumors from Solitude or Windhelm (or something like that) But as long as you don't visit helgen/don't help Ralof/Imperial guy from the cave then the quest will not start, you can even decide to live in Breeze Home via the Live Another Life mod! But the you aren't the dragonborn should be compatible and you could use both.
ScottC12
There are relatively simple ways to avoid becoming “Dragonborn” without mods: Avoid the Main Quest triggers. Visiting Helgen, by itself, will not put your character on a one-way path to becoming the Dragonborn. Quest triggers to avoid: 1. Do not complete the Bleak Falls Barrow quest or 2. If you complete the Bleak Falls Barrow quest, avoid the Dragon Rising quest by not meeting Irileth at Whiterun’s Western Watchtower. Please note that option 2 leaves a burning Western watchtower with Irileth and some of the Whiterun Guards waiting for your character, but no dragon will show up unless your character meets up with Irileth. If you avoid the quest triggers above, your character will not be “Dragonborn” (though some NPCs may call you that) and they may never (never say never) see a dragon again, as long as they avoid the quest triggers mentioned above. I use the excellent Alternate Start – Live Another Life mod, and it will direct your character to seek info on what happened at Helgen. If you use Alternate Start and your character visits Helgen, they will see Alduin flying away after he laid waste to the town. If you avoid the quest triggers mentioned above, that will probably be the only dragon your character ever sees, though NPCs will continue to mention what happened at Helgen. The Aurora and Twilight follower mod has a mini-quest that involves your character taking them to Helgen to find what happened to their father. The amazing Helgen Reborn mod also requires your character to visit Helgen several times during quests to rebuild the town. In any case, your character can visit Helgen without becoming Dragonborn.
