PC Mods on 360?

Right after I find that pot of gold

You don't need a pot of gold, just a little patience. Ever play with lego blocks when you were a kid? Building your own rig is much easier, because unlike blocks, most pc parts will NOT fit in the wrong spot. Buy your parts one by one and build your own rig.

How to buy:

1. ALWAYS SHOP AROUND. Compare total purchase price not just item price. One site may sell a chassis for $90 and another site may have the same chassis for $80, but charge $20 shipping fee. Pay attention to the small stuff.

2. Buy your chassis first. These don't get updated every few months like some smaller parts do. Plus, once you've chosen a chassis you can choose the proper motherboard, but don't do that just yet, you have a choice to make. You can also get your keyboard, mouse and monitor now. Again these are items that do not change often.

3. Choose wisely. Intel or AMD. nVidia or ATI. Don't worry about specifics yet, you just need to choose so you can determine the type of motherboard you require, but don't buy any of these yet. CPUs and GPUs are upgraded way too often, so buy them last.

4. Buy the little parts now, heat sinks, cooling fans, hard drive(s), memory sticks (RAM), modem/ethernet cards.

Hard drive: nothing slower than 7500rpm for gaming. If you can only get one, try to get it 500 gigs so you don't have to worry about space.

RAM: faster is better, but the most important thing is that the pin-count matches your motherboard.

Modem/Ethernet: I don't think these have been updated since 2004 and they likely won't be any time soon, just get the one to match your internet connection.

Heat sink: your CPU will likely include one, but it doesn't hurt to get a bigger, better one. My heat sink is the size of a child's head, it was expensive, but I can play Fallout 3

with max settings on one screen while a blu-ray movie is playing on the other screen and my CPU never rises above 29c, so it was worth the price.

The optic drive you choose is entirely up to you. A good DVD drive is fine for most people

5. Get your motherboard. Do not get thrifty here, this is the one part you do not want to upgrade in six months so get the biggest, baddest, most kickass mobo you can afford. The items you have now are the "hard parts" so start assembling them now. Pay attention, take your time and pay attention. None of these parts will fit in the wrong spot so you shouldn't have any problems, but if you do, there are thousands of How-to's and Help-me's all over the net, and you have us nerds/geeks here at Nexus.

6. Now is the time to get the expensive stuff (as if the motherboard and monitor were not): CPU and GPU (video card). I'm a firm believer in "bigger is better" but for your first video card just get what you can afford, upgrading in a few months will not cause any problems. Don't get suckered by a CPU with a cheap price, pay attention to core speeds.

7. You can now calculate your power requirements and decide on the appropriate power supply, or you can just go buy the biggest one you can find. Big as in watts, not physical size. This is where you can plug something into the wrong hole, kinda funny if your girlfriend says it in the dark, but not funny at all if your hard work and money explodes in your face, so go slow, be careful and pay attention. Most power supplies will have each cable labeled so you know exactly where to plug them in.

8. Choose, buy and install your preferred operating system. Let all the drivers update. Check your security suite and/or install better protection.

9. Frag some mutants!

Just my idea of a good order to buy your items, do not try to use this post as a build guide, it's not detailed enough and I may have left out a part or two. I just hate when someone thinks they can't have a good rig because they can't afford to pay (insert pc company here) $5000 for something that's already built. Doing it yourself is cheaper, more fun and something to be proud of.

<snip>

I quite agree with all of your points. The final cost for my own computer ended up at a little under $1500 by doing this. It was top of the line at the time. And that included a new monitor, mouse, keyboard, and all that other fun stuff. Best money I ever spent.

HOW DOES U PLAY MODS ON 360?

I swear, are people this stupid? Now I know why DLC is booming, because of people like this, they are EVERYWHERE. I'm all for paying for a game when I have the money and the title is worth it(most aren't and I feel like I was ripped off when ever I purchase those titles*cough*SPORE*cough*) but I'll be DAMNED if I'm going to pay for a texture added to a gun, a texture added to a horse(BETHESDA! OMG), unlocking weapons and apparel for your character(SCIV), the list just goes on and on, WHY do you "PEOPLE" keep BUYING INTO THIS? It's just like drugs and hookers... JUST...SAY...NO!
