I want to run two [2] versions of FO4 [1] FO4SE [2] FO4 GOTY my question is this : can I have two different sets of mods linked to my profile but entirely separate from each other if so how do I set this up. I am already playing a modded version of FO4SE and want to use some of the same mods in FO4 GOTY but not sure how to go about it any and all help or advise would be gratefully received ... thanks in advance

Heyas Pharo!

Just with fallout 4, no you can't. The reason for this is because each of those installs of the game, still uses the same file for listing which mods are active, and which one are not.

It's the file plugins.txt which is located in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Fallout4 (YourUserName is whatever you log into the computer with, for the account that has FO4 installed on it).

Now, however, from what my understanding is, you can set up profiles with the modmanager Vortex. Which will set up different lists of active and inactive plugins, separate of FO4. Then you just need to activate whichever profile plugin list that you are wanting to use.

How to do this however, I'm sorry...I do not use Vortex.

[Edit] Also, since I don't use it, I don't know how well Vortex would handle multiple installs of the game. You might have to go in and change the pathways in it's settings, whenever you wanted to switch to a game that was installed in a different folder than the last one that you used.

OR you MIGHT be able to set up each one of them as a completely seperate game, by using the Add Game function.

Again, I don't use Vortex, so I'm kinda winging it, with this.[/edit]

There is of course, another way of doing it, but it's tedious. You can keep a shortcut to the appdata/Local/Fallout4 folder, and keep different copies of the plugin.txt file, in a seperate folder that is not in the appdata folder.

Like keep a folder, then inside it have a folder named Fo4 GOTY, a folder named FO4SSE, etc etc. Each of those having the different listed plugins.txt file inside of them.

Then, when you want to switch mod lists, you go into one of those folders, copy the plugins.txt file from there, paste it into the fallout4 folder and over-write.

Much complexity and tedium in that method tho.

But I hope that this helps you out.

Thanks HeyYou! I was kinda thinking it might, but I couldnt remember for sure.

NMM is, in my opinion, a better choice.

I like NMM better for one simple reason. I can move a mod to anywhere I want in the load order, without having to set up rules, or fuss with some program moving OTHER stuff to make it look like it is obeying my rules......

Yeah, I've got some opinions about Vortex. I'm just gonna bite my proverbial tongue about that tho.

Tho, NMM did hide a mod that was breaking my game, even tho I'd removed it using NMM and manually looked for it all over my computer.

Oddly enough tho, that esp file did show up in show up in some of the backup folders after uninstalling NMM.

Pretty much one of the list of reasons why I do it all manually now,.

For mods with an installer script, I find mod managers almost a necessity.... especially for those with lots of options...... trying to do those manually gives me a headache. :D
