Random dialogue game-lockup.

So this is a recent problem i'm having. I've looked it up on google, but none of the results are recent - and none of the results are exactly the problem that i'm having. So here comes a thread.

Randomly when in dialogue with NPCs, my character completely locks up. I can't move them, turn them around, jump, pull out my weapon, nothing. I can open the pipboy, and pause the game, and go in and out of third person view (i always start in third), but that's it. I'm forced to reload a past save, and avoid whatever dialogue choice I made previously that triggered it.

It's always the same dialogue choices that cause this problem, so i'm assuming it's mod-related. Some quest mod must be touching the same line, or something.

Just wondering if anyone else is familiar with this particular game-lockup, and if there are any solutions to regain control of your character when it happens?

I've tried tcl - no effect. I've tried tai - no effect.

Heyas LL.

Is this on the same character that you installed that other mod with the mod that we'd been talking about on your other thread?

Had you installed any other mods, along with that one, since this problem started for you?

Does this problem occur on any toons that you've played, without the new mods?

Well i've got this dialogue mod here - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41785 which is pretty new.

It just adds in a ton of dialogue for settlers/random npcs to say. I've had it installed for a month or so, it's up to date n' all.

So far, i've only encountered this bug two times. Doesn't sound like much - and it's not! - but it's costed me a few hours of gameplay. And I don't like the idea of such a bug being in my otherwise totally smooth game. Whenever it happens, it reliably happens repeatedly, every time I try it.

The first time I encountered it was on my previous playthrough (a brahmin girl heh). When you get to the end of the Vault and talk to Skinny Malone - if I chose to ask "What's going on here?", the bug would lock up my game. If I chose any other dialogue option, it played through just fine. It's unfortunate, because i'm pretty sure asking what's going on is the only way I can meet Skinny Malone at a later date - in a random encounter. I went through the entire vault a few times before I got it through my thick skull to save before talking to Skinny. That was a time-costly lesson.

The second time was today, on my new witch character. I go into Diamond City the first time, and the Mayor asks why i'm here - and I get all locked up.

If I look at the timeline of my installed mods, the NPC added dialogue lines is one of the only mods that touch dialogue that i've installed before the bug started happening. The other is the quest mod - The Bleachers. I installed it when I started the Brahmin girl character, so it lines up too. And that mod has a habit of forcing the player character to reply with dialogue (WHICH I HATE) automatically.

Ok, i'll trigger the bug again and see if typing enableplayercontrols does anything. When the lockup happens, I don't see a dialogue wheel. It's like the dialogue itself stalls. Interestingly - I haven't encountered any dialogue lockups with any quest mod that i've been playing through. All those play out just fine. Only these base game dialogues are borked.

I honestly don't know how to go into FO4edit and see what quest is touching what line of dialogue. I'm willing to try, but I need more hand-holding through that.

I am not sure it is that mod, as I use it and have never had this issue happen.

The only dialogue issue's I have, and not sure if it related to that mod is at time's talking to someone dose not start correctly at first. So I have to keep trying until it dose.

With Skinny Malone I don't allway's get the dialogue to happen.

My first time to Diamond City is all ways messed up for me, but that is due to another mod.

Not sure if the helps, but I do have the mod mear the bottom of my load order.

Can you track down exactly which response causes it, and then check and see what is supposed to happen when you choose that response? I suspect there are some circular conditions, or some such, that result from choosing that option.

I can't stress enough how VERY novice I am at using fo4edit. I don't even begin to know how to "track down exactly which response causes it". What tab do I look under? How do I find the dialogue path i'm looking for?

The response that locked my game up today was when they open the door to DC. Piper asks you what you think of the news - I chose to say the negative response "The newspaper just likes to stir up trouble" - then the Mayor takes over in the conversation and asks what brings you to the city. But at that point i'm locked up. It locks up the second my character is done responding to Piper with the negative reply.

This is an issue that went from never ever happening, to happening twice in a few weeks. The only dialogue/heavy mods i've installed in that time are The Bleachers, and the NPC added dialogue one. So I figure it's one of them. Which is a real shame. I know i can get through these vanilla dialogue scenes by simply choosing other dialogue options, but it still irks me that I can't play through them normally.

I was really hoping there would be a simple console command I could put in to fix it on the spot. I'm still down to find out what exactly is going on here since it's such a weird little problem, I just need ALOT of hand-holding to find it in fo4edit.
