Squeecky
Hey folks,Installing mods for FO4 on my fiance's laptop (lets hope it runs properly!) and following this guide.:https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23556It's, from what I know, a really good one.. I was wondering however, I wanted to add a specific few additional mods (still halfway into installing, but wanted to post this so people could reply already. :) ) and to see if these work. What I'm looking for.:- Additional content (I'm getting some workshop stuff, which I'm sure is safe-- and mostly the additional mods that add a lot of content, I know for a fact I'll get those.) North Spings, Sector V, America Rising, etc etc-- which ones would you recommend?- Expansions for existing content.: Diamond City Expansion for example, does that still work?- Extra's for the factions, such as.: Minutemen Military, Minutemen overhaul, General of the Minutemen, BoS control airport, etc.- Weather.: Des True Storms & Vivid Weathers still work with that specific patch for us? I always struggle choosing between them.. If not recommended, which one would YOU go with? Is Vivid Fallout good or is it not a weather thing?- Settlements.: This does not mean automatic settlements, but better settlers & settlements mods, like adding more workshop content that's actually good. Spawning in good guards, etc..- Equipment.: I remember last time I had a mod that let me make outfits n vests that had patches, from Minutemen to the Railroad, from the BoS to the Enclave. Does anybody recall what it is? It may be miltiarized Minutemen. I'd also love to hear your best armour & weapon mods out there! Is the backpack mod still operational?- Companions.: If there was five to choose from, what would you say are the best custom companions? And what mod is best to improve your companions (no using ammo etc) and to allow you to bring multiple with you. I don't recall what it was, but my last one allowed them all to have a say when walking around some areas and get influence. It was awesome!I also seem to recall a submarine you could live in and move around with, was that the Dauntless? With a friendly captain? Or is that vanilla? What do you think I should AVOID for performance issues? I did have a lot of crashes when opening my inventory or others' inventories, I heard Vis-G is part of that and I also will avoid things like better blood etc to try and avoid those conflicts. Any advise is welcome! :)
G4M3W1NN3R
"Additional content (I'm getting some workshop stuff, which I'm sure is safe-- and mostly the additional mods that add a lot of content, I know for a fact I'll get those.) North Spings, Sector V, America Rising, etc etc-- which ones would you recommend?" Sim Settlements Conqueror <-- Strongly Recommended, Massive Quest mod with loads of unique features, and Settlement Building Mod Combined. Tales from the Commonwealth <-- Also Recommended, Adds a lot of life into the commonwealth, has several quests, companions, all professionally fully voiced. And of course all of Thuggysmurf Mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/users/14313259?tab=user+files Note: my very brief descriptions of these mods, does not do them justice. definitely check em out. "Expansions for existing content.: Diamond City Expansion for example, does that still work?" Cant really comment on this, as i personally do not use Expansion mods. as they have the potential of having many possible mod conflicts. "Extra's for the factions, such as.: Minutemen Military, Minutemen overhaul, General of the Minutemen, BoS control airport, etc." Militarized minutemen and We Are the Minutemen are the only 2 faction based mods i use, and thus recommend. "Weather.: Des True Storms & Vivid Weathers still work with that specific patch for us? I always struggle choosing between them.. If not recommended, which one would YOU go with? Is Vivid Fallout good or is it not a weather thing?" I Personally Prefer True Storms, for me it looks better, and the ENB i use is made with it in mind, plus the Ghoul Hoard in Rad Storm is a cool feature. as for Vivid Fallout that is a Texture Mod, not a weather mod. "Settlements.: This does not mean automatic settlements, but better settlers & settlements mods, like adding more workshop content that's actually good. Spawning in good guards, etc.." Sim Settlements Conqueror covers this as well. so yea, Definitely grab it  "Equipment.: I remember last time I had a mod that let me make outfits n vests that had patches, from Minutemen to the Railroad, from the BoS to the Enclave. Does anybody recall what it is? It may be miltiarized Minutemen. I'd also love to hear your best armour & weapon mods out there! Is the backpack mod still operational?" i Believe this is the mod you might be Refeering to: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/32369 For Armor: All of Niero's Armor and Clothing Mods, Top Notch Work, and definitely some of the best out their: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/users/17527?tab=user+files For Clothing: All of Vtaw's Work: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/users/9956362?tab=user+files For Weapons: XM2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36750 Widow Shotgun: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/19619 Note, these are just a very few suggestions, i have an aweful lot of Weapons Armor and Clothing Mods, as they are the mods i tend to download the most. the Armor, Clothing and Weapons mods i listed are some of my Top Favorite. however i did not want to write too many, as i do use a lot. "Companions.: If there was five to choose from, what would you say are the best custom companions? And what mod is best to improve your companions (no using ammo etc) and to allow you to bring multiple with you. I don't recall what it was, but my last one allowed them all to have a say when walking around some areas and get influence. It was awesome!" Best mod for Companions: Amazing Follow Tweaks, grants a lot of features. Amazing Follower Tweaks: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/26976 Best Custom Companions for me personally: Heather and Im Darlene Heather: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23273/? Darlene: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36254 these are the only custom companions i use, along with Cait, MacCready and ADA from Automatron DLC Note: My replies to each question are in spoilers, i Added Spoilers to make my post much nicer and tidier to read. G4M3W1NN3R
Few Notes on Suggested Mods 1. Raider Overhaul <-- Very Buggy and can cause all sorts of issues, ranging from CTDs. the mod requirements for this mod is much newer then the mod itself. Use With Caution. CTDs are highly likely. (i have been using this mod for a very long time, ever since its release back in 2016, and it was 1 of my favorite mods, however the issues cannot be ignored, as such i strongly recommend skipping this mod, i have personally removed it from my load order a while ago, and my game has for the most part been much more stable, it is very unfortunate however, as i really did love this mod, and it was indeed much more stable back in the early days, but as requirements become updated while the mods that require them do not become updated, it is bound to cause issues, so ye, Stability is far more important) their are talks of this mod being updated, but i would ignore them until they come into fruition, for the mean time strongly suggest skipping it. the mod has not been updated in 3 years. so not only that, but the potential mod incompatibility is bound to increase with newer mods pumping out daily, and we are talking 3 years of new mods. 1a. Raider overhaul does work however. but you are bound to run into issues with it. and given the fact that Overhaul mods have the highest possible amount of potential mod conflicts, this greatly increases the potentional risks of instability, something to always keep in mind. 2. Super Mutant Redux <-- again same as above, this mod is updated however, but it still has a lot of Bug Reports. as such Use With Caution. 3. Tales from the Commonwealth <-- this mod breaks Precombines, as such this can result in Severe Framedrops in the Affected Areas (and the small chance of CTDs due to broken precombines). their are guides on how to fix precombines, however Boston FPS Fix could potentially fix them anyway, as such place Boston FPS fix, below this mod, i personally have boston fps fix very low in the load order, as to give it maximum priority. 3a. As this issue can be fixed by the user or even by the other mod mentioned (Boston FPS Fix) this mod is still strongly recommended, the pros outweigh cons here, as the only con can be fixed. 4. Sim Settlements Conqueror <-- Very Demanding on Resources. part of what makes this mod so good is also part of why it is incredibly demanding, as such expect Framerate drops. but the pros smash the cons, this is such a fantastic mod, that the performance impact could be ignored/Remedied by the user, not too mention, that the performance impact mostly depends on the users own mod setup and hardware. for me i already have a lot of demand on my game, as i tend to use the highest quality possible as well as the maximum amount of mods possible, but i also have a pretty powerful computer, so the performance impact was like 20 fps. which is a fair amount, but bare in mind that my game already has a lot of demand, basically if i tweaked my setup for performance, i believe i could sustain max fps easily. so ye, performance issues aside, this mod is 1 of the best out their, and is being updated pretty consistent, and by a team that know exactly what they are doing. Few more Mod suggestions 1. Misriah Armory <-- adds many weapons inspired by halo 2. A Bundle of Tape <-- adds a fair few weapons 1 of which is the good ol Varmint Rifle recreated for Fallout 4, so if you have ever played fallout new vegas, you will most likely appreciate this mod. 3. Modern Firearms <-- an absolute monster of a mod, adds an insane amount of weapons, as well as many unique Features: you will need to google this mod. as its current version can only be downloaded from the teams own website. i strongly recommend this mod, it is up their as 1 of my favorites, however this mod is like marmite, you either love it or hate it, the reason being is because this mod weapons are completely based on real world weapons, with the stats to match, as such the general consesus is that this mod is overpowered. however it does include options that allows the end user to tweak, so they can determine how powerful these weapons are by tweaking said settings. 3a. this mod uses script based leveled list injection, the weapons will be incredibly common on enemies, so thats 1 thing to bare in mind, that almost every enemy you run into will be using an incredibly powerful weapon, that can easily ruin your day. the weapons in this mod by default is far more powerful then anything in the base game. but that is largely to be expected, because quite a few weapons from modern firearms are very powerful in real life, such as the Spas 12 shotgun, the Vulcan Minigun. etc etc, the majority if not all weapons in modern firearms have a lot of customization, and can fire many different ammo types, including special ammo types, such as explosive rounds, devils breath rounds etc etc. this mod has a lot of weapon customization, fully custom animations. and introduces loads of new ammo sizes. 3b. The weapons in this mod includes: Pistols, SMGs, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Sniper rifles, Grenade Launchers, LMGs (1 of the very few mods that have these), Miniguns, and HMGs (God Tier Weapons) to give you an idea of the monstrous power, the m61 vulcan minigun fires 20mm anti-tank rounds, and their is a god tier weapon that fires 88mm rounds, combine that weapon with power armour, and you will literally become a walking tank. HeyYou
Did modern firearms incorporate modern sidearms into the same ESP?? One thing I noticed with Modern firearms was, without a merged patch/bashed patch, you don't see ANY other weapons, than those from the mod. With them, you get a decent balance, but, the MF weapons are still more prevalent. There is also another mod, that brings the vanilla weapons up to a rough equivalency of damage as the MF weapons. Though, I can't remember the name just offhand..... :D

Though, I can't remember the name just offhand..... :D "As of update 2.6, Modern Sidearms has been merged into MF" quoted from their faq on MF homepage  their currently on 2.6.3, which was released very recently, highly recommend grabbing it if you have not done so already, as they added many new features, including custom animations for most if not all MF weapons, new weapons, and other goodies. they have also added many MCM options 1 of which allows you to tweak the damage modifiers of all weapons. for me personally i removed all the weapons from the enemy leveled lists, and as such all weapons only spawn in chests, and vendors, i personally prefer it like this, as i also run an insane amount of other weapons mods along with MF and prefer them to spawn on enemies, as the other weapon mods are more inline with vanilla, damage wise. i like modern weapons to be unique and exclusive to me and i wanted to keep their raw power without dying to a single hit and instead of me bringing all vanilla weapons and mod added weapons to MF standards, i decided to just have MF as overachievers, whilst all others weapons are nice and balanced. but yea, without removing the leveled lists they were definitely spawning way too much, which is either a good thing or bad thing depending on your preferred playstyle. even with a bash patch, these weapons were spawning way too much, however i believe they went from direct leveled list edits, to script based leveled lists injection. Squeecky
Thanks a lot folks. I'll definitely check them out!I see that Start Me Up has not been updated in a long time. Does anybody know what is a good replacement, or if it still works well?Edit: Installing things through NMM is not letting me have a little installation menu, I'm pretty sure the mod manager or MCM or whatever it's called is supposed to.. Any idea why? Edited February 20, 2020 by Squeecky

Any idea why?Which menu are you missing? Not all mods come with options you have to choose, those that don't, simply install, and yer done. Those that expect you to manually install them, and just grab the files for the options you want, NMM may not handle properly......
