How long SHOULD it have been after the bombs fell?

Backwards a few posts. I missed the post that Aeons made about all the trash. That to me, is a huge aggravation. Not just because I completely agree that none of these lazy mother lovers bother to clean up where they live. Not just that it's more objects, stickers, and layers that my computer has to process. Not just that it's garbage that gets in the way of scrapping some items (pun there) along with even scrapping the garbage itself.

But think about all the mold, mildew, and other unhealthy bacteria that is growing in all that crap! Speaking of which, if they leave their garbage laying around all over the place, WHERE are they dumping their biological refuse???

LOL Yeah, that would be the logical way to think about it. But with some of these lazy arsed settlers, I just dunno....

Edit: Oh! Oh!! OH!!! Mod idea!! An animation mat that targets Preston and Marcy only. The animation is for them to be shoveling s**t from off the ground, instead of it always coming outta their mouths! :D

I just read all of the discussion and I would like to put in my opinion. I do agree that there should be no plant life and also that places like sanctuary hills and other pre war towns should be gone. It makes no sense that some of the buildings in Boston should even be standing. I also agree with the fact that the commonwealth should look similar to the capital wasteland. Even though in real life Boston and Washington DC are miles apart. You have to put into consideration that New York is between those two locations. And the beginning of the game states that New York was hit by the bombs. Now with that in mind, earlier I liked the question on how big where these bombs? We would have to take into consideration of how powerful were these bombs, and does that power exceed what is our strongest nuclear warhead in our universe. We don't know but we could make possible theory's that can get to a better answer.

Also I would like for everyone to look at Fallout 4's concept art. To be completely honest one of Bethesda's problems is not sticking with the concept art. Even though its just concepts it would have made this game a lot more immersive, lore friendly, and awesome. If you look at one of the concepts it looks like parts of Boston are flooded because of the sea. Even most of the buildings were gone.

Mod idea: What we should have is a mod that recreates the entire game based on the concept art.

New York is west of Boston, and slighly north. DC is south. Even boston took a "near miss", I.E. the glowing sea.

But yeah, we really have no idea what size/type of bombs were used. Neutron bombs don't do a lot of physical damage outside a small radius, but will kill folks out to a pretty good distance..... We also don't know how many bombs were used..... Given the state of the world though, I think its a safe bet that it was, in the end, a 'strategic' nuclear war. I.E., pretty much everyone used everything they had... So, figure most major cities would take at least one hit, if not several. Military bases would certainly take a hit. Depending on the size of the bombs, possibly two or three... or more..... It's entirely within the realm of possibility that larger cities could take six or more hits. All bombs in the 200 to 500 KT range. Which would make a major mess.......

I'm going to go out on a " limb " here.

Based on the " date - time " of the Fallout world, I'm going to suggest that these " bombs " were similar to those dropped on Japan.

So, their code names were: FAT MAN ( where have we heard that name?? ) and LITTLE BOY.

So we can go and see their damage radius pretty easily.

Well we also have to take into account if the Soviet union had created the Tzar Bomba in the fallout universe and also if other countries had developed other bombs that were equally as powerful. I'm just theorizing because of the fact that we might have to make fan made lore for this topic. I feel like were the next line of scientist. We have become death the bombers of the fallout universe.

I do agree that if this ended up being a war where everybody launched everything that they had, it could have been anything.

Like the big crater that is downtown, with all the ferals running around in it. That looks to have been done more by a regular explosive. Granted, a really, really big one. But yet, its got a lot of rads.

From the amount of devastation, just from how much the look of the country around the area is all torn up like it had been through an earthquake, I'm kinda wondering if the glowing sea hadn't been impacted by a hydrogen bomb. A freaking big one.

But yeah. The weapon we have in the game, was named after the Fat Man that we dropped on the Japanese.

(Not so) fun fact. Little Boy was going to go into mass production and was intended to be used for standard combat. Specifically to route out Japanese strongholds along the island chains. In their ignorance, they were planning to nuke the islands at first.

Again, at first.
