JimmyRJump
Not too shabby, depending on price. CPU is okay-ish but seriously out of date already. I never buy pre-built brands. I get separate components and assemble them myself in a case of my choice. That way, I won't have problems expanding (most brand pre-builds do everything they can to prevent a user from changing anything to the computer, adding a PSU that has just enough power to feed the components and not leaving any space for an extra hard drive or SSD). Getting parts separately is often more expensive, but you won't get fooled. Pre-builds always have something that's off kilter. In this build, it's the CPU. It's an eight-core, sure, but AMD are meanwhile two generations further. Also keep in mind that brands like SkyTech (or even HP) don't manufacture anything. They assemble parts from other brands and slap a sticker on the case with their name. They ask motherboard manufacturers to build a board according to their specifications with often a different BIOS that has some options left out. That GPU, is it an Asus, MSI or a MisteryTech built in the mountains of South-East Tibet? The SSD, is it a Samsung, Kingston or a WillLastAsLongAsTheWarranty brand? The power supply, is it something that can provide your house of electricity or is it meant to light-up like a bonedry log held to a match? Check what brand it is and how much amps it has on the 12-Volt rail and what its efficiency is. Always try to find out as much as you can before buying something... StormWolf01
Agreed. The usual skimp is either the CPU or the motherboard (mobo). Then along with secondary stuff like the power supply and the fans.HP is notorious for using cheap fans. Especially in their laptops. Also avoid ebay and amazon custom builds or refurbs. It's not uncommon for their "microsoft technicians" to turn out to be some guy in a garage or basement. On the note of refurbs. ALWAYS take refurbs with a grain of salt. There's a reason why most of them usually only come with a 90 day warranty. It's because.. No... they're not necessarily rebuilt parts. MANY times they are just parts that they took off other machines that came back to the manufacturer. It powers up? Ok rebox it and have it ready to ship.
