Skazzy
I'm gonna buy this x-mas a new gpu since my old toxic 6850 died when installed with my i5 3570k, 8gb ram -and want to buy something that can handle lots of mods for Skyrim without CTD's and stuttering @ 1680x1050 -and soon with fullhd resolution. Can someone confirm if buying a video card with more than 2gb vram can actually make a difference? I'm gonna buy and Asus DCU II 670 GTX with 4gb (but reference) vs a TOP 2GB one....Which should I choose ?
Elsarian
2GB is plenty enough for today's games. If you're set on having a high budget, then get two 2GB cards and you'll be rocking for the next 4-6 years lol.
Skazzy
Don't want dual gpu solution, just one single card that's powerful enough to handle as many mods as I could throw at it. Maybe I've asked in the wrong place, or the wrong people - but I had in mind that nexus forums is the place where people actually use lots of mods. You have a 1 gb mid-range gpu, so sincerely how many mods are you using ? I'm running the full Texture Pack Combiner (highest possible res mods combined) with everything maxed out at ultra on a slightly overclocked 2GB GTX670. In total I'm running about 110 mods of which about 60 are HD Texture mods. Not a single crash so far and constant 60FPS (locked by fraps) at 1920x1080. Hope that helps. Skazzy
That's the kind of answer I was looking/hoping for. If that is the case then I will be totally safe with a oc'ed version of a 670.(not sure of another game like GTA V thou). Can you specify what setup are you using? Thanks a lot for your reply! PC Setup:Intel 3570K @ 4.3GhzASUS P8Z77-V MB (would swap it for an Asrock card if I could)16GB Crucial Ballistixs 1600mHz DDR3ASUS DCII 2GB 670GTX (non-TOP) (light OC: +145mHz core clock & +200mHz memory)Define R4 case. Been trying to balance low temps with low noise, hence the light overclock. I haven't been playing too long with this rig, only for a couple of weeks, but it's been super stable so far. I did actually get one crash yesterday (my first) in a huge Warzones battle when a HUGE army of bandits in high res leather attacked a bunch of giants, mammoths and "dinosaurs" from from the monsters mod. That could have been related to either of those two mods however and not necessarily the VRAM.The game looks absolutely gorgeous. I'd post a mod list but I don't know how to export it from NMM. Also, a new game for comparison: Far Cry 3 at 1920x1080 with everything maxed out except for MSAA (4x instead of 8x) runs at approx. 45fps without any fps-drops. If you want to be extra safe, grab the 4GB card or a 3GB AMD, but it is in no way required (in my opinion and from my somewhat limited testing). Skazzy
You have a pretty beast of a rig right there. 145 Mhz on the core clock seems to be a fair decent oc, didn't know that you could reach those values, did you have to crank up the voltage? Nope. The voltage is locked on these cards (or maybe its the drivers that lock it, not sure). I just put the power limiter in MSI Afterburner to 122% and increased/benchmarked/tweaked until I found a stable setting, then lowered it a bit. 145mHz isn't that good actually, people have reached way over 200mHz OCs on these cards. The cooling is really really good.
Skazzy
Well I guess if I could stick to a 2gb 670 oc variant -maybe the MSI Twin Frozr IV Power Oc, that one has a pretty decent factory oc. Thanks a lot for your replies.
Els236
I have an AMD HD 6950 - 2GB that is slightly overclocked and like my little user title suggests, I am a total mod sl!t :P I have replaced nearly every single Vanilla texture with a 2K or even 4K res. replacement, then add to that crafting mods and unofficial patches and landscape additions and houses and... you get the idea :P I am getting 60 (some stuttering in certain places) FPS with maxed-out Ultra settings and 1920x1080 resolution. Unfortunately for me I had to uninstall "Forested Skyrim" and "Warzones" because the extra load was too much and my game would freeze-crash or CTD or get the Infinite Load bug ... making saves about 12 MB even though I had only completed the Greybeards quest :O Even now I get stuttering 45 - 60 FPS, but it's bearable ^^ Without including the HD textures...
