Got new computer up and running

Recommended Posts

Nice to hear you're out of the woods.

Your new computer has nothing to do with the old one, even if they both would share a network. So, you can always delete anything safely from the old PC, unless you want to keep stuff as back-up for unforeseen circumstances. Personally I keep older stuff as long as it takes to be able to go back to it, just in case.

If you want to delete stuff from the old PC, copy it to the new one or to an external drive, to make sure you have everything you need. At the start there's always something you overlooked.

Heyas Raker, congrats on the new laptop. I'm sure that you're excited! :)

Be careful and mindful of the heat levels in it. HP has a reputation for having laptops that can overheat. I mention it, cuz my last one did exactly that, and took an expensive 8gb RAM card along with it.

And even after replacing the components that failed, it still won't run for more than an hour or so before the protection system shuts it down due to heat. NOT bashing on the product, or the brand, but just letting you know its something to watch out for. This is an expensive piece of hardware after all ;)

Also, if you ever need to take it apart, I'd definitely recommending watching some videos of how to do it first. Mine had some hidden screws, and areas where it would snag on, if other things weren't done before trying to take it apart. Also, if it has an optical drive bay, be VERY careful when removing the casing in that area. The plastic around that bay can be nearly paper thin on some models, and is extremely easy to break.

But yeah, like Jimmy was saying, just take your time, make sure that you have got EVERYTHING that you want off of it. It seems like there's always something that gets forgotten about, until it's too late. And, like I say in my sig, backups.

Congrats again!
