Lichdom

Just out of interest, do you have any rough ETA on this or is it too early to say? Anything at this stage would be better than what Bethesda is giving us with regards to Dragonborn. :P

I like the idea of an alternative, less "evil" method of lichdom - my necromancer is RP'd to be "good" as it were, viewing such spells as just that, spells, rather than evil magicks.

It does kind of make me sad that, from what i understand, your liches will look just like ordinary people.

I mean, that's kind of the point of becoming a lich, not some stat boosts (although i do like me some stats) but the look, the look of a rotting corpse (preferably with a bare skull), even a basic draugr would be great! But that could just be my appearance-whoring coming out

Still, i can't wait for this mod.

Probably before Dragonborn lands on the PC. ;)

In all seriousness, yeah, it's too early to say, especially given that I have to work in my modding time around a full work schedule, a somewhat busy social life, and of course the needs and demands on my time of my wife and our kittens (although one of our kittens loves sitting in my lap while I'm on the computer...). There will most likely be no warning at all before it's released. :P

My spellcasters I tend to RP in an almost amoral way. They're not "evil", really, but neither are they "good". Still, I'll need a bit of aid to become a lich, as I ever so rarely bother using Soul Trap that I don't even bother holding onto empty Soul Gems at all -- I just sell off the empty ones, and buy up/hoard the filled ones I find for what little enchanting I bother to do.

I'm not saying this won't happen. It just won't be part of the initial release. I have no skills in any of the numerous visual arts, so making new textures or models is way outside my own realm of expertise. I also hesitate to recruit someone else for those roles because of the aforementioned scheduling woes -- it means I can't give any co-modders any reasonable promises of availability or timeliness, which while I'm sure some wouldn't mind dealing with it makes me feel bad that I can't offer them even that much consideration.

After it's released and I'm mostly happy with it, I may then look for someone who could provide a good model and/or texture for the lich. We'll see, though, I'm still very much in favor of the full-power lich being indistinguishable from a normal person, so that they can walk into town and not get ganked by the guards right off the bat; a sweet model for the demilich, though, I am not opposed to, and if I do introduce the "super-lich" in a later update with more power, that too could call for a new model as a con of having that much power -- you'd then have to disguise yourself to go into town, limiting your power to that of a "normal" lich, not unlike a Vampire Lord has to take on their human/mer form to walk about town but then transform into their hideous monstrous form in order to unleash their full power.

That shouldn't be an issue at all -- so long as you can pick up books, read them, and your character learn the spells/perks they grant, you'll be able to turn into a lich. It's a purely additive change -- new abilities are added, but none removed.

The one restriction I may put into place is to prevent undead characters from becoming liches, because if you're already undead how can you expect to make yourself undead again? This would probably be based on the keyword, though, so if your custom class is thematically undead but doesn't use the usual keyword, you could become a lich.

I think the idea of turning into undead without being vampire is already worth-to-make mod.

Yet that it gets some good stuff like being lich, getting powers and such..

Can't wait to try this

I just started my FIRST necromancer character. Yes, I've never tried necromancy stuff before. (With Skyrim Redone it's much funnier)

And this is nice addition to that.

Having lich powers and abilities.. Just awesome!

QUESTION: Later on will the lich form be a race e.g will you be able to customize the armor, clothes and general appearance

(If so)IDEA: You could add a character customization screen for the lich's appearance when you wake up from your "dirt nap" and in the window you can customize things like what parts of your body are bone, how much flesh is on your bones, eye glow (if any), missing bones (possible taken by a skeever...dam skeevers), how decayed you are (so if you have hair or just a chrome dome)

and if you are going to comment on the fact that a walking corps has hair, well what about draugr some of them have hair but I get that others have "luster" :D

My character is the heavy armored, power hungry warmage and I would like to be able to continue wearing my heavy armor and still make him look like a walking corps.

The second bit there isn't really feasible - there are a lot of armour mods out there that show bare skin. Not just the so-called "skimpy" armours but also legit armour like Siligonder Chitin from Moonpath to Elsweyr. Something like this would require mesh changes, making custom armour and body mods totally incompatible. And visual effects that drastic cannot be done with bump maps.

It's a nice idea, but not really doable in the grand scheme of things.
