Odylarian
I wanted to review (refresh my memory on) my Skyrim profile. Sooooo, I changed my Vortex profile to Skyrim. When doing that I got this error message (see attachment). It won't let me do anything except push one of those buttons. Neither button is acceptable. I just wanna go back to another profile but it won't let me do anything else except push one of those buttons. It won't even let me change the location of my staging folder (it seem to think my staging folder location changed). IMO, this is a bug/glitch. Some History: I deleted my Skyrim game from my HD about 8-9 months ago. Of course, I can still redownload it from Steam anytime I want. HOWEVER, I still have the Skyrim profile and all my mods in Vortex. I didn't do anything to my staging folder (delete mods, add mods, etc). I It is the same root staging folder I use for all my game mods. In fact, the Skyrim game install folder (Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim) still exists. Is there a quick fix I can do, in the meantime, to override this weird bug/glitch (e.g. delete or change some INI file or somethinglike that) to get back to another game profile? Also, IMO this bug/glitch needs to be fixed. I had to laugh when the error message said, "If you continue now, Vortex will F*k you . . . ."Thank you for your help.Vortex: Latest versionOS: Windows

Odylarian
Thank you for the quick response. I have been programming game extensions. I was told to put them in the C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\Vortex folder so that they don't get deleted when Vortex is updated. I use Norton as my AV. Been using it for years with no prob with Vortex. Never had this issue before. Not sure about Windows Defender. Per MS, when you use another AV, Windows defender supposed to automatically turn off. However, I still have the Windows Security icon in my taskbar. I read there is nothing you can do about that. You cannot fully turn off/delete Windows Defender. Again, no problems for years with Vortex until now.

HadToRegister
OK. Now that I sated your curiosity about what AV I use, any help on this issue? When you deleted your SKyrim game 8-9 months ago, did you make sure to use Vortex to PURGE your mods first?Because if you just deleted the game without letting Vortex know, then it still think Skyrim is installed, and can't find any of the mods now, so it's correctly saying that there have been changes because the Hardlinks have been deleted outside of Vortex. If you PURGED the mods, Vortex and your Mods would've been put in Suspended animation, so that if you reinstalled Skyrim, you could've simply hit DEPLOY MODS to restore everything
Odylarian
Thank you for your response. NO, I did not purge my mods before uninstalling the game. It would have been nice if I was warned about uninstalling the game to first purge mods, but, then again, steam and Nexus are unrelated so I realize Steam would have no way of warning me about this. IMO, this is still an bug/glitch because Vortex should have a way of providing a soft landing when hardlinks are deleted outside of Vortex rather than getting befuddled and blowing up. BTW: I "fixed" my issue. I put fixed in quotes because I don't think I really fixed the issue. There is a 2-3 second delay between starting Vortex and when I get the error message. After 2-3 tries, I was able to quickly click on another profile before the error message came up and switched to another profile. Prolly if I were to switch back to Skyrim, the error would come up again - nagonnadoit. After getting Vortex up and running, I realized that the profile I was in BEFORE switching to Skyrim had disappeared due to an error in the extension I was working on in the C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\Vortex folder you had alluding to in a PC. Maybe that has something to do with the error - dont know and nagonnatestit. Eventually fixed the error in the extension. I guess we can mark this issue semi-solved?? It's not a 'bug' in Vortex that it doesn't know what to do when the files it manages are deleted outside of the program without the program's knowledge, it's user error, this would've happened with Vortex, NMM, MO, MO2 and WryeBash as well, because deleting folders or files outside of the program itself, doesn't give any program the info it needs to keep track of those files and know they were deleted. Try doing that with any piece of software, like a word processor.Delete a text file you've been working on, then open the word processor and click OPEN then pick RECENT and click on the name of the file you deleted. The Word Processor will complain it can't find the file.It won't just say OK, "the file is gone, but here's where you left off" But yea, Semi-Solved
Odylarian
OK, maybe I am a naive noob, but it seems like the Vortex programmers can give you a little softer landing than trying to blow up your game because a hardlink was deleted. That is all I'm saying. Using the wordprocessor example: if it cant find a file, the whole program doesn't lock up with the threat to delete all .doc files that look like the deleted one. No! The program just gives a message and leave you with a blank page.
