vaul
Hi there. First I'd like to say thank you to all those who work to make TESNexus, and now FO3Nexus the best place to look for mods (IMO) :) I'm wondering if I'm just missing where it is, or if there is really no easy way to get to the favorites listing?Since 'track mod' was added I've been using it to add mods that I may want to check up on. Unfortunately I'm not seeing any quick-link to get to the favorites section, so i have to trudge through a number of other pages just to get to the list. It seems to me that it would benefit the site performance to reduce the number of pages that need to be loaded to get to this area, by adding a quick link in the title section of the site. Basically, what I'm envisioning is the title menu:HOME FILES FORUMS IMAGE SHARE SEARCH | LOGOUT MEMBERSwould also have a link for Favorites. It could be in a drop down for the "MEMBERS" link, or also added to the Members section of the links on the right side of the page if you prefer not to use the scripting to add drop down menus. As it stands right now, to get to my favorites list I have to:Go to the MEMBERS page. '-- Go into the Tracking Center page '-- Go into the Manage your favourite files page. I'm sure the site is getting beat up today since the release of the GECK, but going through all these page loads can take quite a while, especially when the pages are timing out and need to be refreshed multiple times. Perhaps I am looking for something a little different than what you intended the Favorite files page to be, but I think it would be great to have a "Favorites Overview" page that is different from the current Tracking Center. It's good to be able to see the info that the tracking center 'full feed' shows, but I would more regularly use a Favorites Overview presented in a similar way to the Manage your favorite files page, but which also shows the date/time for the last time that mod was changed. It would also be sweet to have it show what rating I gave that mod if it could be done efficiently (I know site performance is always a consideration), as well as the author name linked to their overview, so you can see what other mods they've posted. For now I've just added the following bookmark to my favorites for when I want to get straight to the management page: http://fallout3nexus.com/members/tracking/managefiles.php Thanks again for a great site! :thanks: Cheers,Vaul
Dark0ne
Generally I prefer to keep the number of links in the main site navigation to a minimum. I hate these sites with huge link lists in their navigation where it's just too overwhelming for newcomers to take in. The psychology behind website design states that "7" is the magic number for links in any particular navigation block. Any more and the brain/users begin to lose concentration and have a harder time taking things in. I prefer the minimalist approach and welcome users to make user of their browser bookmark and quick link systems to better catalogue the sections of the site they visit regularly. vaul
While I'd agree with keeping the basic presentation as minimal as possible, I think a well organized menu with dropdowns for the subsections can help to show the depth and organization of a site, making it faster and ultimately easier to navigate. That's just my view though and I know not everyone does things the way I do. Any thoughts on what I mentioned for a bit more detailed 'favorites overview' page?It just seemed like a good way to get a quick view of the mods we use and whether they've been updated, without needing to pull up each one individually. Thanks much for the reply,Vaul
