eiennohi
How do I go about uninstalling a manually installed mod, WHICH overwrote previous files. For example I overwrote skin texture files and now I want it to go back to the default. How would I do this?
Jeir
If you have the archive still, then use it to find where the textures were installed, and delete them.If you don't have the archive, there's a chance the mod page or readme will list the file locations. If not, then if you know what textures were overwritten (all the female body textures, for instance), and use some common sense, you should be able to find them easily enough in Skyrim/Data/textures.But, if by 'default' you mean 'the modded textures I installed before' instead of the vanilla Skyrim textures, then reinstalling the original mod would overwrite the new textures. eiennohi
I just deleted the modded files, but now the textures on the characters in the game are missing because there is no vanilla body textures anymore (they were overwritten by the modded texture files). Is there anyway to fill in those empty gaps other than reinstalling the game. And if reinstalling the game is what I have to do, then where can I find my gamesaves? Jeir
The vanilla body textures are in the Skyrim - textures.bsa. It's impossible to delete them unless you delete that file as well, removing every other texture in the game too - but then, all you'd have to do is verify your game cache with Steam and it'll redownload and reinstall it. eiennohi
how do I verify game cache with steam? And by the vanilla body part missing I mean for instance the where the arm and neck would be there would be a plain color to fill in that shape rather than a visual textured arm. Like the colors you would see in the creation kit Edited January 14, 2013 by eiennohi
Jeir
Right-click Skyrim in Steam, click Properties, go to Local Files, and click on 'Verify Game Cache'. Possibly a mesh/texture conflict. Are you using vanilla body meshes? If not (such as if you installed a body mod rather than just a body retexture - pretty much all body mods add meshes and textures), then you need to delete the meshes as well. eiennohi
Ive attached a picture, if you want to see what Im having problems with. Basically I deleted the modded texture in the folder actor/character/female. and since that modded file overwrote the vanilla one, as soon i deleted the modded one there was nothing left

greyday01
I would really recommend using MO2 or Vortex to avoid such problems. MO2 is nice because all the assets for each mod are contained in separate folders which can simply be removed without touching the vanilla game. Don't know how exactly Vortex works but removing mods using the interface should also clean things up and put things back like before you added that mod. For now I would delete the Meshes and Textures folders then verify game cache.
