Oblivion PC and Oblivion PS3 sound differences

Well, first of all I've noticed that the major difference and downside for me between ps3 oblivion and my mod-overloaded pc oblivion is that a: It's way more fun playing on the ps3. b: this is because on the pc, I find myself scrolling through lists far more often than am I in combat. Maybe it's just that it takes more time with all the mods and minor increase of lag, but idk. Devoid of the lag in fighting gameplay and pc-ishness of the pc version, one large difference I've noticed that isn't effected by errors is that the gameplay sounds are much louder (and yes I have my sound settings equal for both systems) on the ps3 than on the pc. Idk why, maybe it was improved for the ps3, but it's really a downside for the pc version. And even with all the crazy moves I can do, it's just not quite as fun on the PC. Does anyone know why I might be having sound issues with gameplay on pc or just know any general mods to make PC gameplay run more like PS3. It would be great help. (and im going to get a logitech controller so other than keyboard and mouse related things)

I really don't think it's that. everything else, the music voices are exhuberently loud. The gameplay though always seems less apparent. On the ps3 it's always something to the opposite effect.

Its your sound card the PS3's have a decient sound card in em and your cpu may have a piece of crap one (no offense ment) I have an X-Fi Extreme Gamer in my cpu and both the 360 and PS3 sound like an Atari 2600 compared to my cpu so if sounds that big of a deal for your drop some $ on a better sound card and a better prossesor will work wonders with your lag problem

Most onboard soundcards have issues when the CPU is overloaded since they depends on it heavily (the sound may get trunked and or failing). This issue is greatly reduced with HDA bus, yet an offboard card will do better. Another thing I noticed if under Vista, the sound is perceivably worse than in XP, to diminish the problem one must activate the "Allow exclusive control" to applications, albeit this will behave oddly when more than one application try to get the sound control...

Finally, the sound may have better quality on PS3, I don't know PS3 to be certain but in the PC the MP3s are severely capped in bit and sample rate.

Just remember there are lots of hardware around here, you are lucky Vista is happy with yours. My machine is flagged 5.7 to Vista, I have not tested with my old audigy, so I can speak for the onboard IDT 7.1 HD audio and I'm not saying the sound have 'problem', I'm saying it sounds worse than in XP on my home theater (better treble definition on XP with the latest version, respectively, of the driver from the Mother Board builder). But the really annoying part is that 'option' under vista to allow exclusive control to the application, without which I had troubles with games and with which the issues were of another nature...

But there is no point in advancing the discussion about Vista, at least not to me... The testings were clear I don't need nor want Vista and it is already uninstalled here (Audio not being the most meaning reason).

No, the issue is lag. It's to do with Oblivion's crappy lack of ability to handle its sound files. There are tons of fighting related sound effects, and every time I go into combat with at least one person they start f'in up. This is most likely due to lag, my sound card is fine I tested it with Unreal Tournament 3. I don't need another one; it's either lag or some weird mods messing with the sound files. If anyone has any suggestions on this, they'd be appreciated.

"Quiet feet" mod

Something everybody should remember is the game consoles are dedicated computers. They commonly don't do much more than play games, but they excel in this. They don't have the universe of different hardware the developers must take into account when making the game. They do not suffers with compromises, no sane softhouse will make a game that plays only on the top bleeding monstrous PC machine.

So a console developer have few troubles with optimizing the game, fewer bugs (since they are doing things to one only and well known hardware)... The price? lack of flexibility, almost no modding capacity and, at least here, the same title costs almost twice the tag price of the PC version.
