Noobie help please!

Hi, so I am fairly new to the modding world and I was just trying to find a decent understanding on some things:

I have just recently familiarized myself with the Nexus Mod Manager and I've been able to use a couple mods (such as UNP and Better Females). I have also added these mods in manually with success! But sometimes I come across mods that add in a new race or add in hair style options and not even the NMM works for them. I've retried working with them and have received some help from the mods' pages, but it came down to trying to check the mods in the Skyrim Launcher.

What is the Skyrim Launcher exactly? I thought it was the mini menu that pops up before playing the game (Play-Options-Data Files-Tech Support-Exit). But I'm not too sure how to work with mods there.

Also, I'm new to the computer version of Skyrim. Is there a short cut page to the console commands? This is something I could probably find a lot easier than the above question, but just figured I'd ask.

I really just started messing with all of this yesterday, so any noobie tips would help! Thank you!

If you are using steam, the mods installed via the workshop go into your Skyrim data file section, which is located in the Launcher (this may be what they mean). And also, too access the console press the ~ key below the esc button, like most games.

A list of console commands can be found here: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Console_Commands_(Skyrim)

I recommend you download Mod Organizer before anything else.

It does an extremely good job at explaining you concepts and is imo the best (and safest) tool to manage mods without incurring into game-breaking issues.

I also recommend checking STEP for a general overview of a good mod setup.

Thanks for the help so far, but.....

-What if I don't use Steam?

-What's STEP?

What do you mean by "don't use steam?"?

As in, what if you don't use steam to install mods?
