Need help uderstanding my game crashes

Firstly, I will say that by altering the load order of my mods and by playing the game with Steam in offline mode I have dramatically reduced the frequency of my game crashes. It does still crash and I'm trying to extend the time between each crash or stop them altogether if there is anything else I could do. My PC is way over the specs required to play the game and I have most of the graphics settings up to the highest level. I have already experimented with lowering the Fade distances of things in the game in order to fix the problem but I didn't notice any difference in the frequency of crashes. I currently get between half an hour and one and a half hours of game time between each crash. I then have to restart the computer, start up Steam again and then start the game.

The interesting thing is that I am usually pre-warned that the game is about to crash because certain sounds stop working. If I have my Pipboy open then the clicking sound made by running the cursor over items stops and without the Pipboy opened the sounds of my footsteps disappears. Whenever the sound first stops I jump just to make sure that I'm not simply walking on a quiet surface. If my landing does not make a sound then I hit F5 to quicksave my game and try to exit the game normally. Sometimes I am able to and other times the game crashes as I'm trying to exit.

Thinking about it now, the sound disappearing usually first disappears while I have the Pipboy open. I can't remember it ever just stopping mid run. I wonder if it could have something to do with some aspect of the pipboy.

My game also sometimes freezes on the loading screen between two areas. This is much less frequent than my other crashes though.

Does anyone have any other ideas I could try? I can live with the problem if I can't figure it out but it would be great if I could solve it. I have done lots of experimenting with the mods I am using including removing all of them so I am now certain that the issue is with the base game and not any of my mods.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Many crashes are caused by 2 or more mods conflicting over the same information. FNVedit can diagnose and resolve a lot of issues with a patch.

Freezing on the loading screen between two areas might be a cell buffer issue. Try using the console command "pcb" before you change cells and see if that does anything to reduce it. I know that certain areas on my comp will always cause a ctd if I don't pcb before changing cells. Two that come in to mind is after leaving the BOS bunker and after leaving Hoover Dam interior.

Here is my full load order but I do not think my current issue has anything to do with the mods. Some of the mods increased the frequency of my crashes but even with all the mods removed and me playing only the vanilla game I still only get between half an hour and one and a half hours of game play between each crash. Would be nice if I could fix it once and for all but I've kind of gotten used to saving regularly and restarting my computer a lot. I've also listed what I'm running the game on in case that gives anyone any ideas.

System:

Microsoft Windows XP

Home Edition

Version 2002

Service Pack 3

Computer:

AMD Athlon II X2 245 Processors

2.89 GHz, 3.12 GB of Ram

Graphics Card

ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
