headlesschicken282
Hi, I am completely new to Skyrim modding and I was going to mod the original Skyrim. I have been carefully watching Gophers Vortex guide series for help, but there are a couple of minor hiccups which I have not been able to work out. The first is with regards to the SKSE. As shown by Gopher, I know that you can install and enable SKSE by dragging an archive of it into Vortex, but I also saw that SKSE could also be be installed directly through Steam. Does it matter which way you do this? Will SKSE still show up in Vortex if you download it through Steam? I would like my modding experience to be as streamlined as possible because I am scared of making mistakes. My second inquiry is with regards to downloading the ENB binaries. In Gophers guide, when using the ENB binaries of Skyrim Special Edition for an example, he highlights that the files d3d11.dll and d3dcompiler_46e.dll of the WrapperVersion folder must be archived and then dragged into Vortex. However, I have noticed that the ENB binaries for the original Skyrim only contains the file d3d9.dll and nothing seemingly similar to the aforementioned compiler file. Does only the d3d9.dll file matter or are there other files within the WrapperVersion folder that must be archived and then dragged into Vortex along with it? Thank you for reading this and I apologise if what I am asking about is a no brainer. Iâm pretty poor with computers.
HadToRegister
I believe only SKSE for SKyrim LEGENDARY Edition is available through Steam. To get SKSE64 for Skyrim Special Edition you need to go to silverlock.org and download it.Also, when you install mods, make sure they're for Skyrim Special Edition. We get people in here all the time trying to install Mods for Skyrim Legendary Edition and wondering why they don't work. headlesschicken282
Hi, HadToRegister. Iâm not confused about the differences between LE and SE at all. Iâm actually wishing to mod the old version of Skyrim because there are some mods that I like which are only on old Skyrim. I also understand that you can get the SKSE for old Skyrim through silverlock.org, but I was wondering if it was better to do it through Steam. Perhaps this is all trivial anyway, but I just want to be careful. Thanks.

Well, in your OP your last sentence was "I am pretty poor with computers" so I just wanted to clarify and save you trouble just in case you didn't realize the difference between SKSE and SKSE64, because we've helped a lot of people in here who were installing SSE mods into Skyrim LE, and vice Versa. Thank you. I think Vortex might alert you to that too which also helps.
