is Fallout new Vegas better than Fallout 3?

New Vegas is a much better roleplaying experience, hands down. That said, if you mod Fallout 3 until it's almost unrecognizable (start with BA Wastland Restoration) it becomes on par. Mind you Fallout 3 does atmosphere much better, New Vegas does narrative much better.

Fallout 3 is wildly immersive; you will really feel yourself as the lone wanderer in a post nuclear world. New Vegas has an improved RPG system, for example: you can finish the whole game without shutting a gun. And it has more in common with Fallout 1 & 2, the original series.

Technologically they are very similar, NV comes with some improves and ideas taken from FO3mods, so, you can use the same improvements by adding these mods if you like them.

In my personal opinion, I didn’t play the original games Fallout 1 & 2, so I judge FO3 and NV from a clean point of view and personally, I found New Vegas colorful and populated of sophisticated people, I feel much comfortable in Fallout 3 because it’s has achieved the whole essence of a post nuclear classic film like Mad Max.

They are both good Fallout games. If you are looking to enjoy a game for a good amount of hours, either one is good to snag. If you are looking to get into the Fallout series then I would suggest getting FO3 and then FNV later on. They both have great DLCs. I can honestly tell you that either way... which ever you get you will end up buying the other one. :P

I love both, for different reasons. I like Fallout 3 more for its story, its characters and the true feel of being in the capital wasteland, espically the element of all the monuments and government buildings that instantly add character.

New Vegas has some better gameplay additions like Aiming down the sights, and the Companion wheel, Hunger and water system, not to mention feeling like you have more choice when it comes to factions, Then again theres mods for fallout 3 to add most of these things from New Vegas.

If you want to immerse yourself in a recognizeable world that lets you feel like you are there, I suggest Fallout 3, if you wan't more gameplay benefits and factions, I suggest New Vegas.

I just finished FNV, though I've owned it since it came out and have played it many times.

I have played every fallout game even the action game based on fallout that was on the XBOX not the 360 version.

Fallout New Vegas has more role playing opertunities if your refering to quests. I don't dislike FNV but F03 is the better game.

Modding wise F03 is still the better game. Though I think you'll find that FNV mods are typically less buggy.

FNV for me was just too populated, too many built up organisations we're talking populations that can support armies, this means that these groups are big.

FNV is a step away from rundown world and more of a hey the world's communities are not just on the rise but can support militaries of large size.

FNV is a sort of return to the original timeline and story structure of the original games.

F03 has a lot going for it.

Larger world like 4 times larger.

Bleak atmosphere.

Communties are in ruin, nonexistant, or struggling to start.

The only militaries are run by organisations that draw their strength from outside of the DC area.

Most of the stuff that FNV has was implented first by mods made by F03 modding.

F03 does lack quests, but they don't seem essentail to me...FNV everyone has quests is this advantageous?

F03 lacks reasonable survival stuff aka plant life...however it doesn't feel as empty, FNV feels baren at times.

F03 you get a house fairly soon, FNV you spend a considerable amout of time without housing and no places to rent a roof until you reach Novac, doesn;t make since this is a primary need.

I don't have time to list all myy thoughts here, but why not just get them both?

They are both fun and have plenty of mods to get and use...
