Playing Skyrim with amd instead of intel hd graphics

Hi!

 

I've been playing skyrim over a year and very recently started to download mods for the game.But I always have to play with the lower settings because the game always launches with the intel hd graphics card.I have another graphic card on my laptop which is a Radeon HD 6490M.I have been told that I would play with higher settings with this graphic card but I can't seem to get it working.When I check the options with skyrim launcher it only detects the intel graphics.

I went on the catalyst control center and I thought I had found a way to get it working by selecting which programs I would like to run with radeon but when I go back to skyrim laucher it's still intel that is selected!

What can I do to play skyrim with my radeon card instead of the intel hd graphics ?

You can change the GPU that you want to use from Catalyst Control Center menu or if you can't do that you can turn off the Intel GPU from the bios if there is such option.

you can try to force it in the skyrimPref.ini too, find this line:

sD3DDevice= "Radeon HD 6490M"

I have tried to modify the skyrimPref.ini but when I go back to skyrim launcher it says that it is searching for the graphic card and it selects the intel hd graphics one.

I will maybe try to turn off the intel GPU from the bios but I am too afraid of making something wrong that could make my computer crash.

As long as the monitor isn't plugged into the motherboard, you can safely disable Intel HD 3000 without a problem. It's not necessary to the computer.
