How do Permissions Work with Translations?

Normally this is stated in the "Modification permission" statement under "Permissions and Credits" on the mods main page. However regardless of this statement it's always wiser just to contact the mod author itself and ask because those permissions are not always easy to understand.

And in this case?

Because today suddenly a translated version of this mod popped up and the person never asked me for permission.

Edit: And the person is also asking for donations, I've noticed.

Since you did not give permission and do not want the translation uploaded, report the file to the moderators and ask that it be removed.

If they'd asked and not asked for donations, I probably would've okayed it. But in this case... yeah, I probably will report it. Thank you for the information.

Wait, I've just noticed that the file size is much smaller. I may have misunderstood the situation and it may be JUST the translation without the original mod. So does someone still need permission to do that?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, I've never been in this situation before. >.<

Ten years ago I made a simple unwanted translation (My first mod basically) and got a Formal Warning for that. So I guess it's up to you.

It's still one of your assets. But maybe just give him a heads up and PM that person about it.

Alright, I sent a PM to the person and asked them to take down the donation option for the mod and ask me for permission in the future. I'll wait to see if they reply, and if they don't I'll probably report it.

Thank you for the advice!

Generally we're ok with translations that require the original mod to be installed. This is of course on the basis that the original author doesn't take issue with it. If you put a report in we'll see what can be done about it. As with most things, it's really case-by-case. If you have no luck with the PM, feel free to report it and our moderators will get involved.

Okay, thank you for the information. I just wasn't sure what the rules were in this case, I wouldn't have minded at all if they'd asked me first. And considering they're taking donations from it... you know, I'm not entirely sure if I'm comfortable with that. In my PM I just asked them to take down the donation option for the mod and to please ask me for permission in the future, but that they can keep the mod up. Hopefully they'll respond and no further action will be necessary. Because I don't really want to report them, that seems a bit harsh.
